If I introduce my dd as Elodie Grace, what's your first thought?

Hello!

I'm narrowing our short list and Elodie Grace is the current front runner ( only thing is that the front runner seems to change every other day). Just wondering what your first thought on that name is.

Also, what would you be likely to end up shortening it to in time, if anything?

Thanks in advance!

Very pretty :)

Followed by 'Do I have to call her Elodie Grace or is Grace her middle name - hmm - best not to ask, see how it goes'.

Sadly, probably Ellie - or maybe something more 'made up' Eldy or Dee Dee maybe - but I'd try to take my cue from you.

I like it.

It's the only girls name I like.

DH is not too sure, prefers Theodora which he would like to shorten to Teddy!!!

Only issue is shortening to Eli or such , although dd has an easily shortened name and that has never happened.

It has a lovely sound to it. But she will be Ellie at school, or even before- so you have to like Ellie!

Pretty name, if it gets shortened will probably be to Elle or Ellie.

You might sometimes get 'Melody?' in response but I think Elodie is going to be quite popular in the next few years.

Ah- good point! How about if I said 'this is Elodie, Elodie Grace' in James Bond style?Grin Grace would be the middle name but I can see that it could have sounded otherwise!

Thanks for responses! I don't think I'd be offended by Ellie. I've always loved Edie but know that attempting to manufacture a nn is unlikely to work!

I think popular is good btw, my DS has a top 20ish name.

same as everyone else - pretty name, but like elise, eleanor, elspeth, eloise, she is very ikely to be called ellie at school. If you're ok with that, then go for it!

very similar to my dd's name in sound. very pretty.

I like Edie too, which i guess would be shortened to 'Ede' with the sounds of the word 'bead'

i like that actually!

trying to be different but without the courage to be different. elodie is like elle, ella, ellie, ellen, Eleanor. I prefer Ellen. I love Edie too but Edie from Elodie, well, you 'd have to make that happen. it's not a ridiculous leap but you'd have to put it out there.

also, I hear L.O.D. I want to ask what does that stand for. Eloise flows better.

I think if you call her Edie all the time, then that will become her name and it's hard to make another nickname out of it. It's a shame to shorten it because Elodie is such a pretty name - but I know I would.

Haven't read thread so as not to be swayed by other posts. Love Elodie, think it's a beautiful sound (unless you live in Liverpool). Grace is one of those non-name middle names for me, I'm afraid, a kind of default one syllable filler.

I think most people would say all names for a new born baby, so I wouldn't assume it was hyphenated.

Very pretty name, IMO.

I love Grace.

Not so convinced by Elodie - Melody?

If you and your OH like it - you go for it though.

Love it, except as a warning I suggest you always introduce her as her hyphanted name. My cousin announced the birth of his daughter 'Jane' (Fake) Then at family gatherings it was very forced when he all of a sudden started insisted we all call her Jane-Lee after she was a year old. Confused

Such a pretty name. Makes me think of a starry night for some reason.

If shortened, around here she'd be Ellie or Elle.

Hyphenated, even.

I like it, so long as you're not expecting everyone to call her Elodie Grace all the time.

Edie is a lovely nickname

I would think you were a MNer. I'd never heard the name Elodie until I joined MN and have never met an Elodie in RL.
Mind you, it is a pretty name and being a MNer is no bad thing.

I would say "Did you say Elodie or Melody?"

Because I don't always hear things properly the first time round Blush

Love love elodie but Ellie and Eleanor is such a common name around here.

I know an Elodie in her twenties - beautiful girl inside and out, and her name suits her down to the ground. She has never (AFAIK) had any problems with it.
