Hector or Edgar?

My partner favours Edgar and I favour Hector. We both would tolerate each others' choice.

I can't decide which to go for; really worried about getting it wrong and having regrets.

The meaning of Hector puts me off, as well as the lack of good nicknames. Edgar is quite cool actually - and I don't know any little Edgars (lots of Eds though).

MrsBungle exactly! It' IS drippy. As I said...dorky. Edgar is strong...Hector sounds like "Flipping Hector!" or just a drip.

Love Hector not too keen on Edgar (though I like Edwin!)

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie Tue 11-Jun-13 22:26:07

See Edwin sounds drippy too!

Edwin, Hector, George, all drippy.

Edgar, Harry, Joe...all strong.

Hector is Awesome.
Not keen on Edgar

I think both are awful but would probably grow to like them in real life.

Hector is ok if you live somewhere than pronounces the letter H.

Edgar is an ugly sounding word.

I don't like the sound or meaning of Hector at all, sorry. Edgar sounds nicer and has nicer nickname options imo.

spatchcock Wed 12-Jun-13 14:45:04

Hector is brilliant. Also makes me think of Troy - Hector was a Trojan prince who led Troy against Greece.

No one, but no one, uses the verb 'hector' these days.

Edgar is a bit wet sounding, imo.

I love Edgar. It was my second choice for ds. I don't like Hector at all.

Jellibotti Wed 12-Jun-13 16:45:32

Hector, without a doubt. Fab name.

Thanks guys; my heart is with Hector. Otto was an option but feel it's not serious enough.

Early October; and yes, I will let you know what we go for!

Neither. They are both horrible. Neither of you should have to just 'tolerate' a name. Pick something else (and nicer) that you both love.

EuphemiaLennox Wed 12-Jun-13 19:11:23

Both are lovely.

Id probably go with Edgar so he can use Ed if he wants a more casual name.

Hector I find slightly hard to say for some reason.

SignoraStronza Wed 12-Jun-13 19:11:33

Edgar. Good Viking name. wink Shortens nicely to Eddie to sound more usual.

fussychica Wed 12-Jun-13 19:33:36

Neither. Be sure that you both love the name - it's a whole life thing not a fashion statement.

pygmy Wed 12-Jun-13 19:43:17

These are the only names we agree on. We'd both be happy with either.
