Soren / Sorell

I'm due in 11 weeks, with our second son (fourth child) and there are literally NO names. Other 3 have quite unusual names, but I can't say 'cos I've not told many people I'm pregnant.

We considered Frederick nn Fred, but I don't like Freddie.
We like Walt / Walter, but it's a bit of a mouthful.
He likes Sun (so he can say "this is my son, sun". No, really.)

I quite like Soren, and Sorell, but the latter is apparently a girls name? Any thoughts? Would I be frightfully cruel to call my fourth born either of these?

And any suggestions? I like quirky, slightly out there but not ridiculously wild. For example : Baxter (a no "'cos it's "a dogs name") Valentine, Wilbur, Quintin, Serafin.

There's a Soren in my son's nursery. He's gorgeous, love the name and really suits him!! Never heard it until we moved here last year.

My son is Gabriel, they make a nice change amongst all the Alfie, Henry, Harry's and Zach's :D

HTH xx

Soren is definitely a boys name. I really like it.

Baxter is nice too. How about dexter?

I dislike sun, but how about sonny?

I wouldn't risk Frederick if you don't want Freddie.

Other names Felix, Stanley, Magnus?

Åsa is a very very common scandinavian girls name.

Bue Sun 16-Jun-13 14:45:09

I have never heard of a girl called Asa! It is a male Old Testament name.

Pumpkinsquid Sun 16-Jun-13 14:27:52

Definitly a boys name. Like Åsa is a girls name. Dont mess with it!;) dont understand the trend of naming boys Asa at the moment....poor things

I've only ever heard of Soren as a boys name. Cool name.

I really like the name Soren, but it must be unisex? The only Soren I've ever heard of was a woman. Spose that doesn't really matter though!

I know a 2yo Soren that lives in the US. It's a fantastic name and full of character.

Pumpkinsquid Wed 12-Jun-13 13:57:03

Soren should be spelt properly if used! its Sören in swedish or Søren in Danish. I've never met a Soren.

DaveMccave Wed 12-Jun-13 13:49:16

I prefer Sol to Sun.
Really like Solomon too, which could be Sol or Solly? Sol could even give you the option of Sun or Sunny as a nn.

Soren was on our short list but we went for Wilbur ( our baby is 4 months old). It's a really nice name. I also really liked digby.

ChasingStaplers Tue 11-Jun-13 21:09:03

I love Soren. It was one of my choices for DC3 but we went for another similar name in the end.

MustafaCake Tue 11-Jun-13 21:07:51

Friend has a baby Roux (pronounced Roo) which is French for Red, any use to you?!

MustafaCake Tue 11-Jun-13 21:06:36

Soren is a gorgeous name.

Sorell is indeed a girl's name!

On a similar Scandi vibe how about

FoxSun Tue 11-Jun-13 21:05:31

I did indeed nab Soren from Charlie and Lola, blush
I love Red, last baby was almost Red, but it didn't suit... And I guess if I never called him Freddie, others might not? Hm.
I also like Ralf, and Leon! Tho Mr. says Ralf sounds like the noise you make when vomiting, charming man.

I'm very glad that people didn't have a huge negative response to it, that's something.

Sorell is out tho', it seems.

Manoodledo Tue 11-Jun-13 20:59:25

Ooh this is interesting. DH has been lobbying for Soren (we don't yet know if it is a boy) and although I really like it I've been unsure whether it might be too Scandi and we might need some Scandi credentials to use it.

ViviPru Tue 11-Jun-13 13:11:47

Soren is one of my favourite boys names, along with Sylvan and Otto.

MERLYPUSS Tue 11-Jun-13 10:06:07

Soren Lorensson the imaginary friend form Charlie and Lola. YES! It's a fab name and I love it.

Turniptwirl Mon 10-Jun-13 20:52:29

I know a Soren and its a gorgeous unusual name but that is easy to spell and pronounce and not so unusual people haven't heard if it

Sorrel is a girls name I'm afraid

Other suggestions:

I think the novelty of my son Sun would wear off very quickly!

putthecrispsDOWN Mon 10-Jun-13 20:23:28

I know a Soren (boy(0). He is awesome and he loves his name, as do most people!

peeriebear Mon 10-Jun-13 19:54:49

I love Soren and had it on the shortlist for DS, but we already have a Lola so it was a no! I love Sorrel too, but it is more feminine than masculine IMO.

Alisvolatpropiis Mon 10-Jun-13 19:52:16

Soren is quite nice.

Sorrel is nice but definitely a girls name

Rhubarbgarden Mon 10-Jun-13 18:01:34

Soren = malt loaf
Sorrel = pretty name. For a girl.

Patchouli Mon 10-Jun-13 14:51:47

I really like Soren, but it does make me think of Soren Lorenson.
Sorell, I think of as a girls name.

Keztrel Mon 10-Jun-13 14:46:08

I know a couple of female Sorrels and no males, but it's just a herb name really so don't see why you couldn't use it for a boy. Quite like it actually smile I like Soren too.
