French or Irish middle name to go with Isobel

Surname Dennehy.

We know Isobel is popular, but it is a contender anyway as it is too gorgeous (to me) to let go of.
Not keen on the frillier spellings of the first name, but can go ''all out'' on the middle name.

I like Isobel Eilidh and Isobel Mathilde but was after more options....

I like Mathilde of your two options. So long as you don't go for Aoife I think you will be fine. To my mind Isobel Aoife sounds like 'is a believer'. .

I'd probably choose a shortish middle name since the first and last names are both three syllables. Isobel Maeve maybe?

I know you already know how popular isobel is, but, just to put it in to context. 3x in dd yr5 class, 3x in the year below, 5x in current playgroup year. These are all small years with a high concentration. I am not including the Isabellas or Annabelles.

Sabine is gorgeous too, but I can't hear it without 'Dardenne' following it.

Marie is my middle name (named for my maternal GM) so wouldn't use that but I do love Orla - possibly spelled Orlaith

Isobel is a beautiful and timeless name - fwiw, I think that it became super popular a few years ago (for obvious reasons) but is now waning in popularity because some people care how many others there are so your daughter is unlikely to have several of them in her class. Your attitude is so refreshing on MN where everyone seems to be searching for the name that will make their child the only one of their peer group. I am a Rebecca which was in the top ten list throughout the seventies and eighties yet it has never bothered me (and I've never met that many others). I also love the spelling that you have chosen - for some reason I always think that is the 'correct' way to spell Isobel.

Anyway, back on topic... I have always loved Roisin and think that Fleur goes beautifully took. Would you consider two middle names? My maternal GM was Mary, my mother is Mary so my sister and I have it as mn and we both gave it to our daughters too - it's nice to start traditions.

Thank you, Petit Donkey, I think the same. I also read that Isobel was 99th most popular name in 2012, so it is (slowly) decreasing in popularity. I am not so silly that I don't know of its popularity and I can see both sides of the argument: names are popular for a reason/names are used to identify. I think it wins out ultimately to ''what name do you love''? There are many I like/love and Isobel might not be the "one", but it's nice to hear ideas.

FWIW, I really like Isobel Fleur Marie :)
