Where did you find baby name inspiration..?!

Our first baby is due in the next few weeks and I have a short list of boys and girls names I like, but none of them feel like 'the one'!

Add to this that dH has completely different taste in names to me...and I'm starting to feel a bit panicky!

Please come and inspire me- where did you look for/find baby name ideas?!

DS was named after watching an episode of blackadder. Don't worry, we haven't called him baldrick.

DD was named after her great grandma.

Dds name is from Little Women. Had it picked out since I read the book.and thankfully DH was amenable.

Boys name (if we ever have one), is that given to a friends ten year old, the only person we know with the name and both he and the name are fabulous. We have asked the parents if its ok

Lord knows what we will call a secnd girl.

DS's name is inspired by a mixture of sport (DP's area of interest) and history/music (mine). He suggested it, I preferred an alternative spelling.

DD's name is from a film and a tv programme we both like and an actress DP fancies. We'd have struggled with names if she'd been a boy though!

I also read through one of those 100,000 baby names books.

For us it was straightforward. I had lots of names in my head. Anyway, we are going for traditional names that are in both families. We are naming a boy after my husbands father as it is another version of his own name and a Mary for religious reasons with my late auntie's name (more friend than aunt) as Christian name.
I would be indecisive but husband knew what names he wanted. To be honest, I love both names. They are not overly fashionable names but mean a lot to us.

I looked at the popular name statistics and chose names that were, at the time, well down the lists. How was I to know everyone else was going to do the same in the next 10 years!

DD's is named after the eponymous character of my favourite childhood book.

DS is named after a ninja turtle.

Ds name is from a book the title of which escapes me. It was a Catherine Cookson type thing.

Dds name was the middle name of a friends child. I fell instantly in love with it.

DD1 is named after JD Salinger's " The Catcher in the rye"

DD2 after a dream I had when pg with dd1 DH said no but later agreed to the name providing we ended it with an a not an e I was happy

DS name book and only boys name dh and I could agree on

DD3 I used to chat with a lady (online) who had a dd called this we lost touch before I fell pg with dd3 but I always loved the name and I think DH felt a bit guilty he had his favourite name had changed my suggestion for dd2 and not agreed to any of the boysnames I had liked so he agreed to this as He liked it too.

DS1's name just "came" to me about half way through pregnancy. I know that sounds totally woo, and it's not by any means an unusual or creative name. I just got a strong sense that he was a boy (hadn't found out the sex) and this is what his name would be. Luckily DH loved it too, and it does really suit him.

Was much tougher with DS2. In the end, I was stuck in the possibly the dullest town ever on a wet afternoon while my car was at the garage. I headed for the library and found the baby name books. Spent lots of time reading up on origins, meanings etc and pulled a bit of a shortlist together. Still didn't manage to make a final decision until he was a few hours old but really happy with what we eventually chose.

Ds is named after a dear family friend

DD1 her name decided when I was a teen and found out my favourite great aunt had a nice second name.

DH called DD2 after a weather girl he fancied. (Everyone else agreed it was a nice name).

I had 2 possible names picked out for DD - she popped out and looked like neither so ended up being called a name that neither of us had even suggested, she just looked like it, and I can't even recall if it was me or exDH suggested it now.

DS, had no names at all picked out, made a short list in hospital when he was a day old and again just thought he looked like that name.

This pg - we have 1 boys name that we agree on and two girls names. I really hope it suits as we have such different taste in names, it could welll be one of those nameless for 5 weeks babys

We looked over the baby names registered over past few years.

With DS he is named after a character in DH's fav film.

DC2 (due next month) looks to remain nameless as we can't agree.

I had a 'style' in mind Iyswim I wanted an old fashioned name, dh dislikes all granny/grandad names and liked unusual names so I put my short list together and we picked one from there it's was a good choice

DS - when I was pg, FIL wad doing his family tree and found 5 generations of them prior to his own father, so we decided to revive it. Middle name - after my uncle who wad v ill (but lived ) while I was pg; other middle name - after FIL.

DD - anagram of MIL's name (but also a proper name!), we couldn't agree on anything else; middle name is a family name and my first name; other middle name is the name of a village when DH and I first lived together (but also a fairly normal girl's name).

I just went for fairly popular names that had always been my favourite boy and girl names, I have one of each.

Emily and Daniel. Didn't bother with baby name books.

We don't plan on having anymore children, but if it happened it would be Joseph for aboy. No idea for a girl :)

Favourite character from my favourite film, also international as DH is Spanish and all the in-laws. Love some Spanish names but they'd he hard to spell or pronounce for some of my family, particularly my DGM.

We had a shortlist of names for both DCs but I wanted to make sure I'd considered EVERY conceivable name! I checked IMDB for the full cast lists of dozens of my favourite films, checked Wikipedia to see who had been born on their due dates, went through our (very extensive) book collection and listed all character names I could think of, went through our (very extensive) record collection, checked more names from cultures/countries that were already on my shortlist. Oh and I asked for inspiration on here too of course! We ended up going for names from our original lists but it was really useful to compare so many. I felt totally 100% sure that we made the right decision for both our DSs names.

DS1 has a politically inspired name as I was working flat out on the last week of a general election campaign when he was conceived. DS2's name was inspired by the location where he was conceived. Both have middle names after family members. All their names had to work together according to my verbal/colour synaesthesia. I drove DP round the bend rejecting otherwise nice names because they were the wrong colour.
