Hector Ivo Black
Magnus Ivo Black
Otto Hector Black

My absolute ideal, dream name would be Ivo Hector Black, but my partner strongly dislikes Ivo. Sad face.

Other names on the long list, but don't feel quite right are Edgar, Bertram, Cosmo, Wilfred and Albert.

My DSs (11 & 8) are Finn & Louis.

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Really dislike Hector (meaning or the potential nickname Heck!)

Otto sounds like a middle aged fat man - not very elegant, sorry

Love Magnus and Cosmo!

Or how about
Reuben
Monty
Quentin/Quinn
Sebastian/Seb
Dominic

Shame about Ivo - great name!

Otto would be my choice - I know a lovely little boy called Otto and think it's a very cool name.

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 18:55:45

Dominic is my partner's name and Reuben is his son's name! Quentin is too posh sounding and dislike Sebastian. Monty's nice but seems a bit informal.

It might be a case of seeing what feels right when he's here; but ideally I'd like the name sorted before his arrival!

I like Hector and Otto both. And I like Ivo too.
Not quite as keen on Magnus.
How about Linus?

Bowlersarm Wed 22-May-13 19:00:48

Now pygmy you know what they'll all be saying about Hector........!

If you can't have Ivo what about Ivan?

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 19:01:52

Linus is great and I have suggested this, but partner can't get past the Charlie Brown rag boy.

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 19:04:01

Not so keen on Ivan (too close to ex's name) but love Ivor. He doesn't!

NotSpartacus Wed 22-May-13 19:05:06

You know what I'd do?
When the baby is out, ask your DH to go out and get something and borrow his phone. Then call everyone and announce the birth of Ivo Hector Linus (Edmund?). Job done.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE Wed 22-May-13 19:06:25

Magnus is my boy name, so it would have to be that!

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 19:07:11

He is fed up with my constant name talk and has said I can call him what I want! Wouldn't feel right choosing a name he's not keen on. Or maybe I'm being too nice?!!

Bowlersarm Wed 22-May-13 19:07:19

Edmund
Xander
Xavier
Jonah
Crispin
Marcus

Any good?

I like Hector and Otto from your list. Not so keen on Magnus.

Belvedere Wed 22-May-13 19:07:42

Love all your names. Ivo is lovely but like you I'm not allowed it. Otto is fab but I wasted that on the cat.
hmm
Looks like we are leaning toward Albert or Bertie as that's the only one we can compromise on.
Why's it so hard?!

Smartiepants79 Wed 22-May-13 19:08:58

They all remind me of middle-aged banker, sorry!
Maximilian? Angus?

OrangeFootedScrubfowl Wed 22-May-13 19:09:08

I think Otto goes best with your other names. It fits. smile

apatchylass Wed 22-May-13 19:20:06

I love Otto and like Magnus. Not so keen on Hector because as a verb it has a very negative meaning.
Ivo is also lovely.
Adore Wilfred too.

Decoy Wed 22-May-13 19:27:30

Hector Ivo, then Magnus Ivo (or Hector Magnus / Magnus Hector?)

Otto has sprung to popularity recently, but am not keen.

Love Albert of your other ideas.

Hector is ace but I don't like Ivo.

Anjou Wed 22-May-13 23:23:55

Love Magnus, hector & Ivo! You've said that Ivor is too similar to DH's, what about Ivar? It's Scandinavian and pronounced 'Eeevar'. I love that it.

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 23:28:00

Belvedere I love Albert but one of our sons has it as a middle name so am reluctant to use it. Same goes with Arthur. Great names!

pygmy Wed 22-May-13 23:28:54

Is Otto really popular now then?

Otto sounds nicest (to my ears) next to your boys names already but as many people point out - it's not often you list all your dcs names out and it makes no bones to them when they are older as it's not often you need to tell people your siblings names smile

OutragedFromLeeds Wed 22-May-13 23:39:59

I love Ivo, shame you can't use that as a first name. Not mad keen on any of the others, but I like Otto best. I think Hector and Magnus are a bit unusual in comparison to your other boys names.

DP said to keep Ivo on the list as he may grow to like it smile

Ivo and Otto are more unusual than Hector and Magnus I think! I'm not too fussed about the names matching, as there will be a massive age gap between them.
I have a feeling he'll be an Otto.
