Need to decide on a girls name, love either Pippa or Charlotte however cant decide between then, swaying towards Pippa I think (although OH isnt hugely keen). Middle name will be Elizabeth. Have two boys already - Henry & George.

I prefer Pippa (short for Philippa, not on its own). However I think Charlotte goes better with the sibling names and also flows better with Elizabeth.

Pippa get my vote

Foosyerdoos Sat 11-May-13 17:38:06

Charlotte is my favourite (biased).

wannabedomesticgoddess Sat 11-May-13 17:39:46

Charlotte is my favourite, although I am also biased.

Charlotte is more popular than Pippa though, that puts some people off.

love both
would you mind charlotte being called charlie/lottie etc though?

I like Pippa best. Know loads of Charlottes, but only ever met 2 Pippas (one was just Pippa, one was Philippa).

Charlotte is classic.

farmersdaughter Sat 11-May-13 18:02:33

Pippa but only is you have Philippa as a full name.

Love Charlotte too

Philippa Charlotte is very pretty smile

MummyBurrows Sat 11-May-13 18:18:56

I love the name Charlotte smile

NadiaWadia Sat 11-May-13 18:22:49

Pippa is OK but a bit nicknamey and (I think) a bit of a current fad (Middleton, etc) Philippa is better, for the full name.

Charlotte has a beautiful sound, and is a lot more classic, and I would go for that every time. Of course there are a lot of Charlottes around! (if that puts you off).

Bowlersarm Sat 11-May-13 18:23:40

Would Charlotte be shortened to Charlie or Lottie?

I like Pippa shortened for Philippa, not as a name on its own, Charlotte and Lottie but not so keen on Charlie for a girl.

Really don't like Pippa and it has all those dodgy meanings in other languages.

KittenofDoom Sat 11-May-13 23:17:15

Charlotte, no contest at all.

<ponders if this is another thread where I have to point out what Pippa means in Italian and Greek>

squoosh Sat 11-May-13 23:19:36

Allow me Poppy, I feel it's my duty!

Swedish - shag
Greek - wank
Italian - blow job

squoosh Sat 11-May-13 23:21:02

Or is it wank in Italian and blow job in Greek?

Either way........

NadiaWadia Sun 12-May-13 02:25:46

But how can it be 'shag' in Sweden, the home of Pippi Longstocking??? (Genuine question)

NadiaWadia Sun 12-May-13 02:27:23

Or are you winding us up, squoosh?

squoosh Sun 12-May-13 03:44:21

I'm afraid it's true, Pippa is a trans continental term for all kinds of filth

mamalovesmojitos Sun 12-May-13 03:45:33

hbmeic Sun 12-May-13 11:50:52

Pippa definitely. Charlotte is so boring. If you worried what the translation might be in Sweden or wherever then put Philippa on the bc.

YoniYoniNameLeft Sun 12-May-13 11:54:59

I love Charlotte!

PoppyWearer Sun 12-May-13 16:45:12

Thanks squoosh. So many "Pippa" threads, I can't cover them all solo!
