Our much longed for DD will be here in 4 months! (Three years of trying!) Hubby is one of those rare animals who is happy with most names I suggest, which although sounds great to have carte blanche, can be a little frustrating when I actually want opinions and ideas. (Bless him he is just so thrilled, we could call her Windolene and he would still be the proudest dad-to-be) smile

Anyway, these are the five he has shown the most interest in and I wondered what you thought. I am aware they are for the most part quite popular, but tell me what you think anyway:

Beatrix Hope

Lydia Alice

Romilly -help me out with a mn?? (NN poss Romy)

Thea Isabel

Posy Alice

Bit of a funny bunch but please opinion away, be as brutal as you like smile

I like lots of your names, though I like Beatrice and hate Beatrix. Don't like Romilly at all.

My favourite combo is Isabel Posy but you didn't suggest that one! smile

Lydia Alice is my favourite of the combinations listed.

Love Beatrix Hope or Lydia Alice

gillywillywoo Fri 03-May-13 15:30:35

Lydia Alice smile

Mama1980 Fri 03-May-13 15:23:06

I love Thea it's by far my favourite.

diamanteasbigastheritz Fri 03-May-13 15:21:41

My Penelope's nn is Nell. I don't really like Penny either!

MummyPig24 Fri 03-May-13 15:05:18

My favourite is Lydia Alice, closely followed by Posy Alice. Not so keen on the others. Congratulations!

Snazzynewyear Fri 03-May-13 11:36:26

Thea is nice but doesn't go with Isabel (or anything starting with a vowel so Alice is also out).

Lydia Alice is great.

Romilly... Jean / Jane / Isabel

Posy is rather little-girlish for my taste.

In that case perhaps better put Phoebe to one side and what is it with dogs? there is often a good baby name already taken by a family canine!

Lovely choices I am sure the right one will present itself from your shortlist.

emmyloo2 Fri 03-May-13 06:29:00

Oooh just saw your other choices:

Penelope - love this
Matilda - I like this but it's really really popular in Australia where I live which put me off it
Eilidh (dh Irish) - I am not sure how to pronounce this one but I am Australian so quite ignorant on Irish names so feel free to ignore me
Noa - not a big fan
Florence - really like this and it was on our list but it's popularity put me off
Isabel - gorgeous but again, it's popularity puts me off which is such a shame because it is lovely

I think Thea still wins for me over any of the above.

PollyJane Fri 03-May-13 06:26:59

Morning! To address the poster above, not only is she living locally to me, but she used to live WITH me and I am going to be her bridesmaid in two months (bump and all) so yes, a close friend...

It's ok though, I wouldnt choose the same as I want my dd to have her own lovely name smile

Thanks all for suggestions - the Asha one is good but DH's mum's dog (!) is called Asher.... ahem smile

I love Penelope written down, but am worried about the shortening of Penny which I dont love as much ...

emmyloo2 Fri 03-May-13 06:24:59

I like all your name choices and I love that your husband is so excited he doesn't care what the baby is called! I think that's very sweet and how lovely that he is so thrilled. Lucky baby to be so wanted.

My favourites is Thea which I have considered for my baby due in 3 weeks. I like it's simplicity. I also like Beatrix and Lydia. Posy is nice and quirky. Romily I also like but I prefer more traditional names. Alice is a real favourite of mine as well.

So I think I would go Thea Alice. I don't think you can go wrong choosing a name like that.

Congratulations again!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Fri 03-May-13 01:02:45

Apparently Asha which is an Indian name means hope.

Penelope Asha
Romilly Asha

Is your friend who called her DC Phoebe living locally to you? If you favoured it so long and she is a long way away and your DH likes the name, why give up on it?

Devora Fri 03-May-13 00:44:55

Lydia Alice is beautiful.
I also like Thea and Posy.

Congratulations smile

thermalsinapril Fri 03-May-13 00:20:23

either - I mean any!

thermalsinapril Fri 03-May-13 00:20:13

Penelope, Eilidh and Florence are lovely. I don't know any babies with either of those names.

BeaWheesht Thu 02-May-13 23:18:59

Faith is my daughters middle name, I love it

PollyJane Thu 02-May-13 22:12:00

Thanks for all your suggestions!

In answer to poster above, yes, historically Romilly was a boy's name (taken from the surname, in turn taken from a place name in France) but like a lot of names, it is now unisex and from what I believe you are more likely to see a newborn girl Romilly than boy.

I did think about Alice as a first name, I love how it sparkles when I say it, but I am concerned about that stupid song.... I caught my dad whistling it the other day when someone named Alice was on the radio....

I think I just picked Hope because of the symbolism for hoping every month that baby would be a reality and eventually it happened for us... I suppose to that end, we could have Faith too....?

It was cut and dried, Phoebe was the name I wanted since I was 11 - then a close friend used it a year ago. sad Her little Phoebe is delightful however smile and I know no one ''owns'' a name.

Other names we have considered are:

Eilidh (dh Irish)

Which for the most part are super popular.

There is time yet, but thanks for your suggestions and help so far smile

ps - we ARE super excited and happy and grateful smile

Purplebananas Thu 02-May-13 16:19:17

Isn't Romilly a boys name?

Thea and Lydia are great names, very strong wondergirl names full of personality.

Posy is really twee and wimpy.

Beatrix is a bit old lady for me.

Timetoask Thu 02-May-13 16:17:49

I hate Lydia!
But love Alice....
And Beatrice/x
I say ditch Lydia and just use Alice as a first name...

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 02-May-13 16:15:38

PS dare you to enter Windolene on the MN Baby Name Finder wink

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 02-May-13 16:14:16

Romy is lovely so maybe Romilly Alice?

Other names are all grand with just one exception. Posy is sweet but trying to imagine it in rl as anything other than a nn... Once she is a teen or fully grown? Sorry can't quite imagine it.

EssieW Thu 02-May-13 16:01:45

Alice is very lovely but I am biased.

I also love Lydia and Thea.

You obviously like the idea of Alice as a middle name so I'd stick with that and then find the first name to go with it and one you love.

squoosh Thu 02-May-13 15:53:20

Awwww huge congratulations to you both, your happiness is bouncing off the screen smile

I like Thea best by a long shot. It's feminine yet not too girly or fussy.

BlueChampagne Thu 02-May-13 15:22:45

Thea or Lydia would get my vote from your list.

fussychica Thu 02-May-13 14:17:17

Lovely names - best combo probably depends on what sounds best with your surname. For me I'd go Alice Thea.
