Do these names go together as a first and middle name?

Can't have Emmeline first as DD1's name begins with 'E'.

IHeartKingThistle Sat 27-Apr-13 21:47:30

I really like it.

jamtoast12 Sat 27-Apr-13 21:52:15

Not sure. I love Clara but Emmeline sounds made up? I think they are both nice names but too fancy/ ott together.

TallulahBetty Sat 27-Apr-13 21:57:30

Love Emmalene (prefer it spelled this way). Definitely not made up. Why can't you have another DD's name starting with E, just out of interest?

NotTreadingGrapes Sat 27-Apr-13 22:00:03

Emmeline Pankhurst not ring a bell?

I think it's beautiful. Sound fab together.

chattychattyboomba Sat 27-Apr-13 22:09:56

Wow! That is a beautiful name! Love it

Emmeline is after Emmeline Pankhurst (so not made up) - we're following on a tradition from DH's family of picking middle names from the names of inspirational people.

DD1's middle name is Rosalind (Rosalind Franklin).

We don't want post arriving to the house addressed to Miss E. Caractacus and not know which DD it is intended for. Hence the desire for different first initials.

I love both names, I'm just worried that they don't 'flow' well together.

Still18atheart Sat 27-Apr-13 22:20:15

Love it

Love Clara and really like Emmeline

chattychattyboomba Sat 27-Apr-13 22:26:45

Out of interest- how will you pronounce Clara? Like the 'a' from apple? Or the 'a' from above?

chickydoo Sat 27-Apr-13 22:35:16

Lovely name xx

LegArmpits Sat 27-Apr-13 22:40:00

One of them is my name, one of them is my favourite name!

NathanTheProphet Sat 27-Apr-13 22:40:51

Very good!

Laquila Sat 27-Apr-13 23:18:09

I think they're lovely together. I prefer the pronunciation of Clarr-ra to Clair-ra, FWIW.

JazzAnnNonMouse Sun 28-Apr-13 07:06:07

Chatty - the 'a' in both 'apple' an 'above' sound the same to me confused

To me the different pronunciation of Clara would be 'claarra' or 'claira'.
I prefer claara.

Clara Emmeline is a wonderful name. grin

chattychattyboomba Sun 28-Apr-13 07:27:55

Hehe... Ok. I say 'uh'bove as opposed to 'ah'bove or 'ay'bove.
So Clara like 'Lara Croft'

stinkingbishop Sun 28-Apr-13 07:44:28

Gorgeous name, well done you, I only decided mine in the labour suite!!!

Longdistance Sun 28-Apr-13 07:51:41

I likeir but, I'm biased....being a Clara Martha oops...<outs self>

Longdistance Sun 28-Apr-13 07:54:02

It's said as Claa_ra rather than Clai_ra in my case btw.

AThingInYourLife Sun 28-Apr-13 07:55:25

Love it.

They sound good together.

What a totally fab tradition! smile

Giggling at Emmeline being made up grin

Ikeameatballs Sun 28-Apr-13 07:58:34

I really really like both names but my only word of caution is that as one ends in a vowel and the other starts in a vowel then can tend to run into each other. When this happens people either tend to sort of add in an extra R sound between the names or have to make a deliberate pause in their speech to prevent it from happening.

This might not bother you but I have this problem with my dd's names and it does irritate me a little.

xigris Sun 28-Apr-13 08:09:41

Love it and love your DH's family tradition smile

thermalsinapril Sun 28-Apr-13 09:35:59

Both lovely names but agree with Ikea about the vowels running together.

MadameJosephine Sun 28-Apr-13 11:14:03

Love it! Almost worth having another DD do I can steal your idea smile

Rhubarbgarden Sun 28-Apr-13 11:16:22

I don't think they flow. It's the vowel vowel thing.

NotTreadingGrapes Sun 28-Apr-13 11:18:12

They vowels would only run on if they were both "a" (like Clara Amanda)

This is the most lovely name combination I've seen on here for a long time and I insist you use it!! <bossy> grin
