Girl's name April? What if I go overdue and into May?

April has been our front runner for the past few months now. And having had my first daughter early and this one showing signs of being ready since 34 weeks we thought she'd be April born for sure. However, I'm due on Saturday and no baby yet. Now I'm having a wobble about whether we could call a May-born baby April. Dh thinks its fine, but this might be more because we can't agree on anything else!
Dd1 is Holly. Other names we like but can't agree on or cant use for other reasons are Amy, Lucy, Elsie, Willow, Erin, Beth, Neve,...Ivy ;). We also like but are not keen on using very popular names such as Poppy, Ruby, Lily.
Any ideas about using April or other names we might like would be hugely appreciated, Thanks x

I know someone who was due to be born in May, but ended up being overdue. Her parents didn't want to use May for a June-born baby.

However as her parents didn't like June enough as a first name they opted for Shirley June (as it sounded like Early June, and still represented the time of her birth).

I always thought that was quite a sweet naming story....

However in answer to your actual question, I don't believe it matters if your April has a May birthday. I know someone called Holly who was born in August, and a Summer born in January... So names don't always fit the birthdays. Smile

I think an April born in April is a little odd...
April born at any other time is perfectly nice.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, upthefrigginduff, and initially thought an April born in April was a bit naff, then when looking online found everything else pointing to the contrary! So I guess consensus is if we like it, go with it? Crocodilesmiles, in the same vain as your tale, I quite like The thought that Amy is an anagram of May, but dh not keen :)
Dont suppose anyone has ideas for other names we might want to consider? X

If you like the name April, then use it Smile There are no rules that say it's only for those born in April.

It's fine - or you could go with Avril, if you're worried.

Little girl at school is called April and her birthday is in June.
Another little girl called Mei - don't think her birthday is in May either.

My mum is June and she was born in April, don't think it really matters. If you like the name go for it Smile

I had this anxiety too with a planned Juliet who only just made it in July. Go for it, if you love the name.

Thank you all, keep the ideas for names coming please .....I'm still not 100% sure April is THE one. I need help! Kinda wish it was just my choice and dh didn't keep saying he doesn't like all the names I suggest! Although I guess equally I don't like all of his bizarre suggestions!

I know 2 sisters called Holly and April.
Holly was born in June and April was born in May, both suit their names perfectly, I've never even really thought about thier names in relation to the time of year they were born.

Not many people you encounter throughout your life are aware of your birthdate, are they? A few friends and family, sure, but for most it's not something that looms very large. So 99% of the people she meets are never going to raise an eyebrow at an April whose birthday is in May.

I once taught a girl called April who was born in April and she was bullied for her parents' lack of though over her name.
As for April-Mae, no. Really, no.

I know an April born in December, a May born in October and a June who was born in July!
Go with the name you like Smile

Even if someone asks you (or her, in future) why she's called April when she was born in May, there is actually a perfectly good reason - i.e. she was due in April.

I was planning on May for dd3's middle name but dh had other ideas!

I think Holly and April sounds lovely together, they are both fresh and nature-ey but not ina very obvious way, please please do it! And the birth story of expecting her in April but she hung on a bit longer is just a nice little family tale for her too.
