A sister for Reuben James(48 Posts)
... so on my like list are the completely unusable Robin (you can't have a Robin and a Reuben, right?) and Rowan, (ditto). Also we like Willow but so does Everyone Else Having Girls right now, ditto Scarlett. Quite like Harriet but it's a slightly odd colour (am synaesthetic). So not too complicated or stupid at all really...
Ooh synaesthetic, this could be interesting finding out what colour certain names are.......
How about; Tabitha, Eliza, Thea, Esther, Merryn, Elodie, Esme, Sorrell, Tansy, Violet, Kitty, Martha, Polly, Evelyn, Alice, Libby, Phoebe, Lydia, Iris, Meredith???
Coco - pink and brown, tres chic and a major contender
Luna - Blue and yellow
Lois - Blue but with a horrible, draining hole in the middle of it
Gabriella - the blue equivalent of khaki iyswim, definite contender
Imogen - white and dark, sorry, hard to describe
Josephine - yellow and red, very nice actually but vetoed already.
Love Elodie (if it does indeed rhyme with melody) and Sorrell; Iris good but not sure how DP will like it, love Thea, again a DP issue... Oh, lovely, knew I should have asked earlier...
Elodie does rhyme with melody - but what colour is it???
I love this thread, so interesting.
Lois has a draining hole in the middle of it. I don't think I have synaesthetia, but I 'see' it written in a circle like a Polo mint, so not too far away from you!
Was going to say Sorrell, but MoonHare already has.....
There is a tiny chance that people may just want to know what colour their chosen/favourite names are. I would like to post my children's names disguised in a list, but they are all boys!
All sound nice with Reuben, no idea what colour they conjure up though.
Oh I do like Sarah and Rebekah but we are like the most biblical sounding family on the earth at the moment, despite being completely and totally non-religious. So we were hoping for a non-biblical, or at least not markedly biblical name. Emma (green) a good friend's name, it would feel odd.
Think everyone's a bit synaesthetic tbh but some people its more marked... most people have a sense of space or size in days of the week, for example. However, not everyone confuses when they have an appointment because of the colour of the afternoon it's on and the colour of the number. I regularly fuck up my Tuesday afternoons on this basis, HAVE to write them down...
Naomi, pale blue fading to green, I like it
Lily, navy blue and white
Hannah yellow but a bit dirty? So okay but unusable for me
Elsie, green and orange, I don't like it for that
Sorrell, the orange of autumn, very unusual and that's why I like it so much
Belle, orange with yellow, but not in a good way
Nell, pale blue and faded yellow, nice but very very soft
Since you've been so helpful LeChat it would be mean of me to refuse to colour a short list of boys' names... but you should be warned that the next synaesthete will be along with a very different interpretation... FWIW Reuben James is brilliant blue and yellow, very striking and reassuring, my absolute fave colour blue. Robin and Rowan are close but don't have the same depth and Robin has a bit of brown. But you just can't do a Reuben, and a Robin or Rowan, no matter how much I want to...
Sparkly out of the 13 girls names I have suggested, I did cheekily slip mine in amongst those options......and luckily you see it as nice and positive.
I do see the days of the week like a bar chart with Wed the tallest, Sat & Sun a different colour and the lowest. Also, the year is like a flat disc, we are currently at about ten o'clock, with July at midday and Christmas at six. The seasons have colours too. Maybe I have a milder form. I thought I had developed mine as a child as a memory aid and everyone has it, but discussing it with friends, I realise this isn't the case. I also realise that everyone who has synaesthesia see things differently.
If you have time sparkly, I'd be fascinated to what you make of this short list of boys names
Oh, forgot to add, would you like some more girl suggestions? When is your daughter arriving?
Reuben was on our list, wonderful name!
Youv dittoed my 2 fav girls names Willow & Scarlett - also love Ruby but that wouldn't work for you.
How about Pheobe, Or Isabella
We have a Reuben...so are in the same situation of trying to find a name that goes. How about...
My first thought on seeing the thread title was "Naomi Louise", and I see Naomi has already been suggested and is a good colour.
<dying to ask what colour DS is>
Reuben James and...
Harriet and Thea are both lovely.
BTW, are you by any chance a Woody Guthrie fan? As soon as I saw the thread title, I began singing, "Tell me what were their names, tell me what were their names, did you have a friend on the good Reuben James?"
Rebecca sprang to mind when I read your post.
I really like your favourites Sorrell and Elodie. Either would be lovely. I think you need a one syllable second name so:
Okay, sorry to have dallied, everyone, DM was in town and baby's gender is a secret so felt unable even sneakily to reply...
Re: Reuben is ruby coloured - well, no actually, and neither is Ruby as a matter of
synaesthetic oddness fact, and while it is a nice colour, it's a bit like a Stroop test, so I'd not consider Ruby.
Colours on randomly discussed boys' names :
Toby - Navy blue and brown, it's very dense and would be a contender for Reuben's brother if we had to think of one
Jake - Yellow and pale blue
Milo - green with brown underlining/ undershadowing, with a bit of white, it's actually quite complex and was nearly Reuben's name
Finn - rusty orange
Charlie - pale blue
Oliver - white, black with red at the end
All quite nice really! and I feel relieved about that, there are some lovely names which are all the wrong colour, like Michael, which is brown, black, orange and dirty. Mike is mainly dirty. Sorry if it's anyone's DH/ DC name, I can only reiterate, the next synaesthete along will tell you it's made of diamond and blue, or something...
Vashti is out, don't like v words, they are too pointy (sorry, that's the possibly least useful reasoning ever given) Sophie, Georgia, Daisy, Isabella, Corinna and Tamsin have been bagged by friends. Love Aurora, DP has vetoed - quite like Natalie but have taught a million and probably wouldn't use it for that reason. Same with Lauren, though it is particularly pleasingly coloured. Anna is great; Sally I'd forgotten existed! IYSWIM. Naomi is def creeping up on me, I already thought it was quite nice... Miranda Jane is just brilliantly put together, in terms of colours - emerald green and a brilliant, dazzling yellow but really solid. Might try it out on DP, not sure whether it's purely the colours that feel very appropriate...
Love, love love Sorrell Rose despite an odd colour thing, also Reuben announced the baby should be called Rosie Park, so it would be nice to give her one of his names. His current fave is Coco, though, and we were seriously thinking she should have Coco as a middle name/ nn and a more 'high court judge' (in the words of my friend) first name... Elodie May is lovely too, and more harmoniously coloured.
Didn't know the Woody Guthrie ref! Harriet and Thea are both lovely - Harriet could also be Hatty, which is tres chic.
Well, we've got two weeks or so before she gets here? Having said that, we didn't get to the registrar until Reuben was 3mo so I'd be lying if was to suggest there was any sense of real pressure with that deadline...
Hmmm ok then, maybe to work on ideas to go with Coco as a middle name?
Naomi Coco is quite sweet
Or how about....
That's hard...I don't think many names go well with coco, but that's just personal opinion...
