Yes or No and Why?

HorryIsUpduffed Mon 15-Apr-13 10:26:50

No. Dated (70s).

ZolaBuddleia Mon 15-Apr-13 10:41:56

No, agree it feels dated. Also feels a bit modern at the same time (sorry!), in the vein of Ethan, Wayne, Tyler.

It's from Harry Potter!! Sounds good to me haha!

Littlecherublegs Mon 15-Apr-13 12:35:13

I have only ever personally known of 2 Deans - one was a very naughty boy I went to school with back in the 80's and one is a guy I worked with recently who was about 40.

I dont see it as a name for 2013 - as the others have said it seems dated so its a no from me (sorry!).

BumpingFuglies Mon 15-Apr-13 12:39:36

It's actually not a bad name imo, but for me it's a no because the only Deans I have known have been utter, utter bastards. So the name is ruined for me now. grin i can only think of them when I hear it and the shit they chucked my way.

Silly really, but words can have very strong associations.

But objectively - it's not a terrible name by any means.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Mon 15-Apr-13 17:03:35

I rather like it, in the same way that I rather like Ross, Dale and Scott. I think they are decent sounding, no-nonsense sort of names.

fussychica Mon 15-Apr-13 18:10:28

It's fine - don't love it but don't hate it.

Still18atheart Mon 15-Apr-13 19:29:20

TheChaoGoesMu Mon 15-Apr-13 19:34:03

OkayHazel Tue 16-Apr-13 01:56:12

I quite like it, and have never met one.

IcingOnTheNappyCake Tue 16-Apr-13 16:24:23

My Uncle is called Dean (about 39), and he's always like it? (if that helps) confused I think it works well through their whole life and people sometimes dislike a name but then change their mind when they meet the LO and see how much it suits them!

mathanxiety Tue 16-Apr-13 17:10:11

No. Same category as Glenn, Brian, Keith or Steven or other names from the 60s and 70s.

mathanxiety Tue 16-Apr-13 17:11:05

And want to add Gary to that list.

deleted203 Tue 16-Apr-13 17:41:58

No. Too 70s and (IME) were always love rats who drank too much.

deleted203 Tue 16-Apr-13 17:42:24

Along with Waynes...

usualsuspect Tue 16-Apr-13 17:45:40

I like it.

The Dean I know is the gentlest loveliest man.

BohemianWrapsForTea Tue 16-Apr-13 17:46:21

No. Awful name.
Marginally acceptable if he has a twin called Pearl.
