Wobbling on chosen names.

We don't know if it's a boy or a girl, but both me and the OH made the decision a long time ago to choose two boys names and two girls names, then make the final decision when the baby is born to see which name 'suits' it best. Pretty rational and sane so far. Boys names are Luca and Sunny. Girls are Reenie and Georgie.
Now I'm 39 weeks and I am wobbling over these names we've both liked and have had chosen for ages. Trouble is, I feel bad telling the OH I might have changed my mind, as Reenie is a name we chose together in memory of his Mum (Irene).
I'm sure it's just my hormones and I will be wobbling about something else tomorrow, but argggghhh!
Any advice or opinions, please??

Whoooops just seen you have her! Congrats on baby Georgie smile

Luca - Good
Sunny - Better spelt Sonny
Reenie - Dislike but ok as a middle name. If you spelt it Rene then that would be pn Ren-ay, whereas Reenie is reen-e.
Georgie - Good

What about Irenie (nn Reenie) which sounds a bit more like a 'proper' name when she has to introduce herself as an adult?

I never posted on your original thread but hooray for updates!
Congratulations on your lovely DD.
Take care smile

Just seem your post.
Congratulations and lovely names!

How about Jeanie?
Or Giannie? with an Italian accent

Thank you, everyone.
I am pleased to announce that our little girl was born on April 22nd!
We have called her Georgie Irene. She is perfect and doing so well
Sorry it's taken so long to get back on here, but have had a rough time after the birth and was in hospital for 5 days. Feeling near to normal now though and enjoying catching up and spending time and cuddles with Georgie grin

Another vote for Georgia Irene.

I like Sonny and Luca!

Good luck with the birth and let us know what you choose smile

I like Luca a lot. Georgie is sweet, and so is Reenie.

Can I suggest Irini, nn Reenie/Rini? Irene is actually pronounced this way in the original Greek; it can also be spelled Eirene. I actually love Irene anyway! I think it'll make a comeback, it has a very retro/hipster feel to it smile

KittenOfDoom Fri 12-Apr-13 19:32:56

But Reenie isn't a name!

It's either short for Irene, when Irene is pronounced with three syllables, Eye-ree-nee.

Or it's a wrong alternative pronunciation of Renée.

Georgiana if you don't like Georgina or Georgia? Bit too long perhaps.

lakeofshiningwaters Fri 12-Apr-13 18:24:55

Oh sorry, don't know why I bolded the last bit!

lakeofshiningwaters Fri 12-Apr-13 18:24:21

Oh I love Reenie! Haven't heard it for years (a few of my Nana's friends were Reenie).

It is a bit old lady but if horrors like Ethel are coming back, why not Reenie - which is nice?

puts Reenie on the list for imaginary dd3

issypiggle Fri 12-Apr-13 16:00:26

you've got time to practise and see which sounds better too before you settle for a name.

iamfizzy Fri 12-Apr-13 15:24:24

Thanks everyone. Some lovely advice here.
I spent most of last night on a proper wobbler crying over everything and nothing! I hope that's a sign something is gonna happen soon confused.
I just thought it would be the end of the world if we didn't chose the right name for our baby and that it would spend years in therapy because of the name we gave it! What a drip I am.

Feel better today and think we are sticking to the original plan and original names. Sunny was a typo BTW. Should be Sonny, and I agree Sunny is a bit girly and not really a name at all!
We have discussed Georgia/Georgina but have both agreed we don't like these because of name association. (I went to school with a bitch called Georgina, and OH has a work colleague called Georgia who is the devil incarnate!)

Think we'll just stick the plan and see what he or she looks like when they decide to pop out. grin

I agree with most of the others - Georgia/Georgie Irene works well and is a lovely tribute to your husband's mum.

I also like Luca

OrangeFootedScrubfowl Fri 12-Apr-13 02:58:44

I met a baby Reenie and I thought it was really nice actually. Unusual, cute.

getmeoutofthismadhouse Fri 12-Apr-13 02:46:53

I have a Georgia who gets called Georgie but usually gets called George

I like Luca not really Sunny it seems a nn in itself to me ...

DiscoDonkey Thu 11-Apr-13 23:30:45

Luca is nice. I think if you go for sunny it should be spelt sonny.

KittenOfDoom Thu 11-Apr-13 23:25:46

Georgia or Georgina, both lovely but keep Georgie as a nn only.
Reenie is awful - use the proper name Irene.
Or Renée, as in the song "Walk Away Renée". Fabulous name and not used much.
Luca is streets ahead of Sunny, which is not really a name IMO and sounds like a girl's name.

Gugglebum Thu 11-Apr-13 23:04:53

Georgie and Luca. Not at all a fan of Sunny. I too like the idea of Irene in the middle.

ChompieMum Thu 11-Apr-13 22:58:11

Another vote for Georgie and Luca. Sonny is ok but not keen on reenie. Irene is a good middle name

Luca - gah.

Luka is lovely. Don't like the others, sorry.
