Strong and classic? Or other?! Opinions please ladies. Thanks in advance :-)

I LOVE it! I may have to steal it.... ;-)

LOVE it! Especially Rupert, unusual yet easy to say and spell and so strong.

PurpleStorm Fri 22-Mar-13 00:09:09

Not keen on Rupert, sorry. Sounds a bit wet to me. And also reminds me of Rupert the Bear.

Love James though.

Ruaraidh is pronounced Rory, or thereabouts. Much stronger than Rupert, that does make me think of a very posh chinless wonder, unfortunately, sorry. Rupert the Bear?

mayanna123 Thu 21-Mar-13 13:24:40

Agree that Rupert is MUCH nicer than Rudolph (Rudy = Rude-y to me), Rudiah or Ruaraidh (however that is pronounced...).

GirlOutNumbered Thu 21-Mar-13 12:42:10

Love the whole name,
Love Roo, Rudy and RJ.

A winner!

OBface Thu 21-Mar-13 12:37:30

Really like it. As well as the shortening to Roo.

All the Ruperts I've known have been lovely

MrsMarigold Thu 21-Mar-13 12:36:46

we wanted to call our son Rupert James Thomas this but had to go with Robert instead because it is a family name and it was a bit political. I love it - do it.

As for Rueben, Ruaraidh or Rudiah, sorry BebopdingALing - I hate them all.

Mrsrobertduvall Thu 21-Mar-13 12:35:03

Love James but Rupert no.
I imagine a chinless wonder.

mayanna123 Thu 21-Mar-13 12:31:47

Lovely name combo - Rupert is a great name!

dashoflime Wed 20-Mar-13 12:10:55

Really nice combination. Makes me think of Rupert Giles from Buffy.

Sunshineandwaves Wed 20-Mar-13 12:10:45

I think it's a great name!

shoobidoo Wed 20-Mar-13 12:09:01

Rupert is great and much nicer than Rudolph imo!

olivertheoctopus Tue 19-Mar-13 23:10:22

Love Rupert. Is on our list!

WormCanner Tue 19-Mar-13 18:51:46

Or Rudolph which can also be Rudy.

BeeBopDingALing Tue 19-Mar-13 18:13:09

If you like the nn Roo you could go for Rueben, Ruaraidh or Rudiah which are a bit stronger than Rupert.

WormCanner Tue 19-Mar-13 17:58:05

I agree with you, OP. You could say the same of Roland, another name which I like.

wedontplaywithelectrics Tue 19-Mar-13 17:52:04

Thanks for your comments. The Murdoch connection doesn't bother us tbh. Rupert Murdoch's son is a James too, haha!
We were more concerned about it being viewed as a "poncey/wet/posh" name, but the general feeling and feedback is that it has a certain classic, elegant appeal. I think this baby will be our little Roo :-)

AKissIsNotAContract Tue 19-Mar-13 17:52:02

I love Rupert, great name.

OkayHazel Tue 19-Mar-13 17:51:15

Love them!

shoobidoo Tue 19-Mar-13 17:50:39

Lovely combo but then almost any names works well with James as middle name - hence why it's become somewhat of a default middle name (we have one too: Quentin James!).

dragonflymama Tue 19-Mar-13 17:16:44

Love them together!

Beatrixpotty Tue 19-Mar-13 16:58:08

They sound good together, nice classic names.

BeeBopDingALing Tue 19-Mar-13 16:50:24

Rupert is a bit of a wet name. Really like James, classic and lovely. If definitely using both I would reverse them.

landofsoapandglory Tue 19-Mar-13 16:05:10

I like it.

<whispers my hamster is called Rupert!>
