Both sets of grandparents had their suggestions. If I had let them chose, I would have

DD1: Chantelle Jennifer (my mother's and MIL's choices)
DD2: Jasmine Lola (fil and father).

Their names are very, very different to those! It tickled me when I remembered that today.

My dad suggested Calypso... strangely enough it didn't appear on our list!

PurpleBlossom · 06/03/2013 21:16

My MIL said Crystal and my Mum Skye. Oh and my Uncle randomly threw 'Tiffany' into the mix Confused

dimdommilpot · 06/03/2013 21:33

MIL wanted Lexi. My mum wanted to name we chose (i think thats because she knew it was my most favourite nane ever).

emsyj · 06/03/2013 21:34

MIL thought DH was a girl when she was pregnant and would have called him Victoria. The idea that there is any other girls' name than Victoria is beyond her. She suggested it for DD1 and again for DD2.

DMum likes Lucy, which I also like, but DH doesn't. However, DMum's main role in the naming process has been to tell me all the names she really hates, which includes most names in the world ever.

Chubfuddler · 06/03/2013 21:35

No suggestions made but on the basis of the names they gave thief children I'd say Wayne and Debbie.

No thanks

Nandocushion · 06/03/2013 21:39

DM wanted me to name DS Jasper. I would definitely have considered Calypso.

breatheslowly · 06/03/2013 21:44

DM would have chosen Catherine or Sarah and DFIL would have switched DD's first and midle names around. DF and DMIL wouldn't have any desire to express an opinion.

exoticfruits · 06/03/2013 21:48

I have no idea- they didn't say and we didn't discuss - we just announced.

exoticfruits · 06/03/2013 21:48

I mean DH and I discussed - we just didn't with anyone else.

MrSlant · 06/03/2013 21:50

My mum has suggested the same name for each of our boys, my fathers! (sorry mum, just not into the dynastic name sharing thing Wink )

LetUsPrey · 06/03/2013 21:54

My mum didn't make any suggestions. For DS1 MIL suggested Derek. This was 2001. She is a very lovely MIL so it was a "smile and nod" moment Grin

AmandaCooper · 06/03/2013 21:59

My dad suggested Icarus which I actually quite liked ; MIL liked Jonti or Josh.

SingingSands · 06/03/2013 22:04

My mum suggested Jack for a boy. Only, she suggested we spell it JACQUES so as to be a bit different. I actually did LOL Grin

For a girl, she suggested Sammy. Which I really like, but we didn't use. Maybe next time!

My (Step) DM wanted Anastasia, Cosette, Lissanna, Hilja (name from my language) or Safira (also name from my language, just think of it as Sapphira). Anastasia was pretty but to princessy. Safira was okay but only in our language!. Cosette (we aren't even French) and Lissanna... She went through that list for our three girls, with DS she wanted Issak, Leinel, Anouk or Sjander (again, all names in my language) or....Kyle.

My ( step) dad was a bit more sensible. Joshua, Elliot and Zebediah (really?) for DS and Lilja (name in my ,magnate, basically Lily), Topaz, Skye, Liljabelle, Susannah or Emily. Okay, Topaz, Slye and Liljabelle, and Zebadiah, maybe not, but the others are okay? Lilja was a middle name for one of our DDs! We used Joshua though.

DMIL wanted Vivienne, Laurel, Cara or Charity! Charity? For a boy, Aubrey (yes, for a boy, yes I know originally it was a boy name, but NOWADAYS he'd be bullied), Jesus (very common name in her culture- heyzus) or Alberto. She admitted to liking Benjamin, which we used with DS as a middle name.

DFIL wanted Luca, Thomas, Tobias, Quentin or Solemon for DS, and Miriam, Samia, Viktori (my language for victory! Seriously?) or Mariette.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 06/03/2013 22:13

My mam wanted Morag or Elspeth for some unfathomable reason for DD1

Startail · 06/03/2013 22:41

Actually my parents, DSIS and DH all agreed on DD2's name. I'd have used her second name, but it reminded my lot of a slightly annoying celeb.

No idea what anyone else would have called DD1, there was never any debate. I'd known what she'd was to be called since I was 14 and discovered my favorite G aunt had a nice second name (her first is so horrible she never signed it herself).

MunchkinsMumof2 · 06/03/2013 22:43

Mil - Ralph Hugh
Mum - Sebastian for ds and Jasmine for dd.

CzarChasm · 07/03/2013 04:04

Both sets of parents were happy to tell us what they didn't like, but kept their suggestions to themselves... except for DMIlL. She had three sons and apparently always wanted a daughter named Hannah Victoria. When DD was born she said that her name was beautiful but was a bit disappointed that she would never have a Hannah Victoria in her family. She is a lovely MIL so I just did a bit of smiling and murmuring non committal things when she gave me her beseeching eyes Grin.

CheerfulYank · 07/03/2013 04:45

My mother wanted me to name DS Hadyn.

For this baby she has thrown out Sophie, Iris, and Stella, none of which I am using. :)

Longdistance · 07/03/2013 04:55

My mum liked Lilly, and my mil liked Laura. Mils choice was awful as she was my school bully, so that never got used. But we did use Lilly for dd1's middle name.

cjdamoo · 07/03/2013 05:01

My mil was determined we call dd Tracey after her. We did not.

FreedomOfTheTess · 07/03/2013 08:31

Ever since I was pregnant with DS1 (13), my mum openly expressed her love for Amelia, and her wish for me to use it if I had a daughter. My dad vetoed Amelia when I was born and repeated that veto when my sister was born.

My mum was disappointed when DD was born and we didn't use Amelia. She didn't say so, but I could tell.

Problem is, I cannot stand the name, and nor can DH. I dare not tell her that though.

MIL wanted to name dd after herself - Kalliope. Sorry, but it's not for me.

My mum would have chosen Catherine.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/03/2013 11:17

I met a lovely Kalliope on holiday and considered it in hormonal madness - the rest of the family have traditional irish names Grin

olivertheoctopus · 07/03/2013 14:02

My parents have been very keen on Thomas with all our DS's. Nothing wrong with it per se but we have a v dull common surname and it would just be a bit 'meh'. Don't ever remember MIL suggesting any names but they would have been rejected!
