Hi everyone. My husband and i are discussing baby names at the moment. Its still early days in my pregnancy but we enjoy talking about all we can anyway. Its taken us nearly 2 years to conceive so no time like the present to start planning! Anyway the names we seem to agree on are:

Isabella paige
Jacob Philip

Can you all let me know what you think of these names and if there are any associations i should know about. We are open to suggestions except from Philip which is my dads name.

I don't particularly like Isabella Paige, no specific associations, but Isabelle and it's variants is incredibly popular and just a bit over done for me. Paige I rather dislike tbh. Jacob Philip is okay but I prefer Philip Jacob by far.

Im not sure on paige myself but its one that's popped up a couple of times that we both agree on. Unfortunately if i had my way a girl would be more likely to be Maggie which my husband hates. Isabella has ended up being all that is left when we narrow down names we don't like for whatever reason and the only thing that puts me off is the popularity. I don't think that alone is a reason not to use it though.

I wouldn't use Philip as a first name surely as it is my dads name so would be a bit strange.

Not keen on Isabella Paige - there are a lot of Isabellas at the moment, what shortened form would you be happy using? I just don't like Paige, it feels a bit 90s to me and doesn't sound very classy to me. What about Philippa as a middle name for a girl? Not with Isabella as that would be two names ending in "a".

Jacob is ok, but I am not keen on Jake, would this be your preferred short version?

On your list I love love love Neeve and Violet and like Francesca, Lewis, Maggie, Imogen and Blake. Not sure this is very helpful Grin

Both lovely!

I love Isabella - popular or not, it's a beautiful name. Paige is nice and it's refreshing to see a middle name that is more than just a "filler" (think Rose, May, etc)

I think it's nice to be honouring your dad in your boys name.

I originally liked Philippa as a girls middle name but discarded as it didn't go with Isabella. Im just not sure. The popularity of it does unsettle me, i would shorten to bella personally. With Jacob i like jay. Its hard, especially when you have a fussy husband!

Isabella very overdone and Paige just awful, sorry!

FWIW, I also really liked Phillippa!

Lydia and Violet and Lucas are the only names you've suggested that I like.
I am a fussy mare though.
If I had my time again, DD would be either Anna or Ellen, had she been a boy she would have been Adrian, Gavin or Duncan.
Don't like Phillipa at all.

Nothing wrong with Isabella and Jacob, but they are both strongly associated with Twilight which may be where some of their current popularity comes from (especially Bella).

Your long list looks quite short to me :)

I agree with the Twilight connotation for Isabella & Jacob (especially if you have another and use both sets!)

I am caught in the same trap with DS (edward) and another brewing (alice or isolde if a girl).

But they are nice names.

From your list I also like Lucas & Ivy.

LOVE Isabella. There's a reason why some names seem to be everywhere, that's because they are gorgeous!

Paige is nice and I can see why you'd want a single syllable name after Isabella. Is there a connection to this name? I think middle names are a good way of honouring someone or showing creativity, which I wouldn't have the balls want my son/daughter to be saddled with called. Maybe something a it less "safe"?

Sky
Wren
Fern

Jacob Phillip is lovely and the middle name proves my point above.

I have an Isabella, and I've yet to meet another one! (And we live in Edinburgh, so plenty big enough!)

We shorted it to Izzie and most folk I know think its a sweet name.

I like both your choices. Go with your heart and don't worry what people think. It's very hard choosing names that both you and DH like! And congratulations on your pregnancy!
