What do you think - should I fight for one of my names, go with his favourite or just stick with the mutual compromise of Matilda? Help! xxx

Lara, or Juliette would be my choice from your list.

forgetmenots Fri 01-Mar-13 16:58:39

Orla is my favourite girls name ever, and will be my choice for dc1 if pink. Like Neve too but would spell it Niamh. Then Matilda. Nice names smile

anonymosity Fri 01-Mar-13 17:24:41

Not sure about his favourite (is he a fan of Joanna Lumley?) but I do like all your choices, particularly

anonymosity Fri 01-Mar-13 17:25:11

sorry, Orla not OOrla

scaevola Fri 01-Mar-13 17:32:00

If she's very hairy, how about Pelagia?

MadameJosephine Fri 01-Mar-13 17:37:01

Juliet would be my favourite from that list. How about Perdita with Perdy for short?

WhispersOfWickedness Fri 01-Mar-13 17:38:14

I love Matilda! Sadly DH didn't, so we compromised on Rosa.

His favourite :
Perdy - really don't like this

My favourites:
Harriet - love it
Rose -ok
Neve - hate but like Niamh
Lara -ok
Orla - don't like
Phoebe - really don't like
Juliet/Juliette - like Juliet
Tabitha - don't like
Matilda - ok

How about Melissa, or Maeve?

Gugglebum Fri 01-Mar-13 20:11:44

Matilda is lovely. I really don't like his choice. Maybe Persephone with Percy as a nickname? From your list I adore Harriet, and really like Juliet.

baskingseals Fri 01-Mar-13 20:29:05

i think you've got to win this one.

my favourites from your list are Rose, Harriet and Juliet.

HorryDrelincourt Fri 01-Mar-13 21:00:44

I like Juliet, Harriet and Tabitha much more than Matilda.

And as for his Lumley fetish hmm

MoelFammau Fri 01-Mar-13 21:54:04

I LOVE Perdy. I wanted a little Perdy.... Perdita is beautiful. Makes me think of the witch child in that Nina Bawden book.

BeeBopDingALing Fri 01-Mar-13 23:32:20

I haven't heard the name Perdy for years! Knew a girl called Perdy when I was a younger and I remember even back then thinking what a cool name it was. She was brilliant and a lot of fun. I would absolutely go with that. Out of the other names the only one I like is Neve.

Perdy Matilda smile

Zaphiro Sat 02-Mar-13 01:06:30

Doesn't Perdita mean lost?

stifnstav Sat 02-Mar-13 01:08:09

Perdy is pretty cool. Its the mum Dalmatian in 101 Dalmatians. I don't do Disney but Perdy was beautiful.

Despite my aversion to Disney, I would call a child Perdita. Totally.

DH has just announced he likes Orla too.
So really if I were to take his opinion into account :D it's between Matilda / Orla / Perdy...

I am completely divided on Perdy. To be honest it seems a Marmite name and the fact that some dislike it so much does put me off it (eek...caring what people think!?!?!).

Surprised at how universal liked Harriet is on here! Oh if only DH were less picky...will find it hard to let go of other names, esp Tabitha.

mummabug Sun 03-Mar-13 01:34:21

And yes Perdita does mean "lost" sad

WhispersOfWickedness Sun 03-Mar-13 03:19:28

It is a marmite name, I'm one of the ones who doesn't like it, sorry! sad
I don't like Harriet either!
I do think it's better for you to compromise, better than one of you ending up hating the name. As I said up thread, ours was a compromise name as I loved Matilda but now I'm so glad we went with Rosa as it suits her down to the ground, she isn't really a Matilda smile

Spoonful Sun 03-Mar-13 03:24:21

I think you have to compromise.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Sun 03-Mar-13 16:53:46

Orla or Lara are lovely, it seems a shame to 'settle' on a compromise name, <hastily adds, nothing wrong with Matilda, very nice name>.

Perdita is lovely. Also love Harriet. I do like Matilda though and think Tilly as a nn has a lovely ring to it.
