What are your thoughts on those names???

Thanks x

BunnyLebowski Wed 20-Feb-13 11:09:26

Santiago - Badass. Love it.
Leonardo - Great
Rafael - A bit wet
Nicholas - Completely wet
Oliver - Possibly my least favourite boys name ever. Just a horrible sound.

Santiago, Leonardo and Rafael are forrin.

Nicholas is exceedingly dull.

Oliver is barely less so.

First three are a bit 'try hard'. Last two I like.

Lucia, would Leo be a good compromise as you like Oliver and your partner likes santiago?

I am biased as I have a Leonardo, but it is fab and Leo is lovely.

Umlauf Wed 20-Feb-13 11:23:45

Oh I loooovvveee Nicholas, but I'm biased because its DHs name, I think its beautiful.

Really not keen on Santiago I think its a little bit arrogant calling your child 'saint' something although this is just me and in Spanish culture its very different with all the Jesus' etc. it also makes me think of nasty Iago from Othello.

Oliver - lovely and classic.

Rafael is nice but I don't like the nn Rafa and all the little Rafaels I know in Spain are nicknamed this. I always think it sounds like a dog barking!

Leonardo is nice and Leo is a good nn!

Santiago is an excellent name.

Leonardo and Rafael are okay though I wouldn't choose then myself.

Nicholas is one of the dullest names ever. Oluver quite nice but very popular.

Call him Santiago!

Lucia2013 Wed 20-Feb-13 11:32:03

Thank you all!!!

Leonardo.... I love the nn Leo (Leo pron = spanish) or Leo ( L-ee-o = English)

Santiago... Makes total sense in spanish

Rafael... Nickname: Ralph.. no way no way no way RAFA! I may have a problem when I go to Peru though... they will all assume he is a Rafa

Oliver... My favourite in English... i love nn Ollie

Nicholas... mmm... still nice but I think I prefer the others now.ow

How about Fabio?? Just read that!

Thanks already.... I feel more optimistic already!!

Santiago is incredibly cool, but you'd need to be able to carry it off - agree with Bunny's description of 'badass'! Like Rafael and Nicholas (nn Nico is cute). Oliver is just dull, and incredibly popular right now. And Fabio - completely, absolutely not.

Lucia2013 Wed 20-Feb-13 11:45:11

Lol.. Fabio gets shortened to Fabi?????? I thought it was Fab

Which name do you all think works best in the UK...

vamosbebe Wed 20-Feb-13 12:08:44

Best friend is due in March with an Iago - suits the family to a T. Nn for Santiago is also Santi, also cool.

Not a fan of the others except Rafael, but in its full form, definitely not Rafa.

Lucia2013 Wed 20-Feb-13 13:24:08

I am
Between Leonardo and Santiago!

I still like Oliver... I am
Not so stressed now... But I would still love to have a name. Plus I decided not to tell friends and family... Specially my in laws as they are very very English and old fashioned and would probably have a nervous breakdown with their grandson being
Called any different from their suggestions of James, Ruppert and Spencer!!!

SucksToBeMe Wed 20-Feb-13 13:28:46

I love Santiago, Santi for short.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Wed 20-Feb-13 13:31:03

Except Santiago means St James. Why would you call your kid St James?

Rafael and Nicholas, I guess. Not the others.

SucksToBeMe Wed 20-Feb-13 13:33:11

She not calling the baby St James though grin

Mintberry Wed 20-Feb-13 13:34:07

Just to clarify, are you having children, or starting a gang of Ninja Turtles? grin

I really like Oliver.

Mintberry Nice to see it wasn't just me who had that thought then! smile

ArielThePiraticalMermaid Wed 20-Feb-13 13:39:19

But is it an actual name in Spain? falls mainly on the plain. Are there children in Spain called Santiago or is it just a place with a great cathedral? If there are then fair enough, I guess....

Spoonful Wed 20-Feb-13 13:43:37

Love Santiago. I know a Santi. Fab name.

If I had a smidgen of Spanish blood I'd use it myself but I don't.

onlymeee Wed 20-Feb-13 13:44:36

I like all of them except Oliver which I've never liked, plus it's been very popular in recent years, so will date. (In the UK, at least.)

onlymeee Wed 20-Feb-13 13:46:33

Yes, Santiago is an "actual name". Often abbreviated to Thiago or Tiago.

seeker Wed 20-Feb-13 13:46:53

Are you Spanish? If so, great. If not- you're naming a child, not a Ninja Turtle.

onlymeee Wed 20-Feb-13 13:51:36

How rude.
