Been strolling through recent discussions and can't see a mention of it.
One week away from eviction day and can't decide on names.

I think Rupert's on the up, amongst certain liberal circles.

Get in before the masses follow. wink

Def what Phyllis said.

The only Rupert I've ever met used his middle name instead. It's a bit wet IMO.

isambardo Mon 18-Feb-13 09:41:27

I love it! When naming my son we came down to a choice between Rupert and Rufus.
Nothing wet about the name in my mind, I think it's quite strong actually.

I love it, DH said a massive no.

He said Bear, followed by 'posh twat' hmm there is no way he'll budge!

I reckon a Rupert would have the piss taken out of him just about anywhere, not just "round here".

my dh has said a definite no. hmmm really don't know what name to choose. We used our fave name for ds1 Henry and we can't agree on anything else. Still got another 10 days to come up with something.

Meh, kind of wet. What about

Edward, George, William (surprisingly on the decline but still a great name), James. Any Thomas-the-Tank-engine name, really.

Pixel shock

I was just coming on to say that precise thing but from the older sister's viewpoint.....

mrstowers Mon 18-Feb-13 15:23:20

What about Little Lord Fauntleroy instead? grin

I couldn't use it myself, but every Rupert I've known has been lovely. Plus the nickname 'Roo' is cute.

dogsbreath Mon 18-Feb-13 15:33:49

Its my son's name. We know two others, one the same age and the other two years older. We are not posh, hopefully he isn't wet. Many people, including his form teacher, shorten it to Rupes, I often call him Roo. In my son's year (approx 45 boys) there are 5 James, two Williams, one Edward. He is the only Rupert in his year at school. I wanted something easy to spell and not too common.

dogsbreath Mon 18-Feb-13 15:39:01

Oh yes, forgot to add I had thought George for a boy. However, after giving birth discovered 3 others in the same hospital - spent nearly two weeks deciding.

Rupert Penry-Jones - how gorgeous is he!!!!!!!!

Purplecatti Mon 18-Feb-13 18:58:57

I wanted this name before I found out my baby was a girl. OH wouldn't have allowed the name though. Booooo. I love it. And Rufus live that too, and Hugo, Giles (love buffy), Peregrine.
OH hated all those names. Good job baby was a girl and we found something we both liked.

MadameCastafiore Mon 18-Feb-13 19:21:10

Rupert, Rufus and Reuben are our top 3 names.

We just love the nn Rue though.

I think it's a fab name.

Astley Tue 19-Feb-13 09:40:44

Ahh now Reuben DH and I agree on. Great name.

notso Tue 19-Feb-13 09:58:32

I really dislike Rupert, though I've never met one apart from the Bear.
I really like Rufus though.

I doubt any DC born in 2013 will have the faintest clue who Rupert the Bear was by 2021 grin
