James is becoming very popular, so fine if you don't mind that but a bit of a meh name. But have to say that JJ is awful.

He won't introduce himself to people as James Joseph anyway. Most people won't even get the alliteration, because to them he'll just be James. I like James Joseph a lot more than James Robert.

Nothing wrong with it. No point going for something just to be different, I think you need a connection with a name to feel right. Personally I prefer James Robert but that's because they are both family names for me. I wouldn't feel the need to pull up my judgy pants about the name James Joseph, unless I was told to call him JJ of course.

Love it.

It's a nice traditional name and much nicer than James Robert definitely! Like others have said you don't need weirdly wonderful names, just one that you like. If you want traditional then this is a nice combination.

It's fine if someone told me they called their son James Joseph i would think oh that's nice and never give it another thought. It's just a plain simple name, no bells or whistles.

Littlecherublegs Sun 17-Feb-13 16:32:11

As long as you dont start calling him JJ then its fine IMHO!

James Joseph is much nicer than James Robert.

I think it is very nice and will raise no eyebrows.

You should know (if you don't already) that you will meet many many other children with one or both of these names. If we say James in this house (my 3 DC are 13, 11 and 9) there are <tallies on fingers; runs out of fingers> at least 14 we know well, ditto for Joe/Joseph.

I teach secondary and I have 5 Jameses and 8 Joes in my classes. Just letting you know in case it bothers you (it may not in which case ignore!)

It IS a nice traditional name. Not everyone has to go for Montys and milos and Xanders. If you like it go for it. And for the record I think James Joseph is much much nicer than James Robert.

I like it - and JJ is nice too.

BusyBee86 Sun 17-Feb-13 10:19:25

Oh I thought it was a nice traditional name. sad
I had another thread with the name James Robert...everyone seemed to like this name.
Is James Robert better than James Joseph?

I know a James Joseph. It's nice, but a bit normal.

FellatioNels0n Sun 17-Feb-13 09:24:30

It's boring.

raisah Sun 17-Feb-13 09:17:49

Nice names but any reason why both begin with a J?

BedHog Sun 17-Feb-13 09:16:25

It's a bit dull to be honest. There are hundreds of thousands of boys names out there, a lot of which are really nice. Have you read through any name books or thought about the names of people you know or have heard of?

I like it. I used Joseph for Ds middle name and James was also on the list. I like traditional names smile

ShowOfHands Sun 17-Feb-13 09:10:10

It's a normal name. Not weird, not wacky, not remarkable. Just a name. No obvious problems with it, people can spell it you'd hope and everybody will have heard of it. It's not very exciting but no reason why a name should be if that's not what you are looking for.

BusyBee86 Sun 17-Feb-13 09:07:26

James Joseph? Joseph being the middle name.
