Love it, simple and elegant

Not a fan. Too hard sounding. I imagine someone from Shameless.

Mellymog Fri 15-Feb-13 06:00:53

We would have used this but found out we're having a boy. I think it's lovely and not too common.

CzarChasm Fri 15-Feb-13 03:25:52

Love it.

MidnightMasquerader Fri 15-Feb-13 02:40:43

Love it - classic and timeless.

I'm not a fan. I picture a woman built like a tank (no idea why). Sorry!

Bowlersarm Thu 14-Feb-13 20:14:51

Yay - you either love it or hate it

AndWhenYouGetThere Thu 14-Feb-13 19:38:22

Great, beautiful name (I can't use it as my surname is a possession so her name could easily be a sentence.)
Please use it as I can't.

can someone remind me/tell me what a 'marmite name' is?

louisianablue2000 Thu 14-Feb-13 19:26:48

I'm Scottish and think it's a lovely name. Never thought of the 'i own a' option and wouldn't care but I've given DD2 a similar 'difficult for the English' Scottish name. If you raise her to be confident in herself then yshe'll be able to cope with the inane comments.

Bowlersarm Thu 14-Feb-13 18:57:46

Love it.

Brings to mind a girl who is very confident and knows her own mind, yet elegant and gorgeous. Would that be right, pictish ??

baskingseals Thu 14-Feb-13 18:51:45

i love the name Iona and really wish i'd thought of it for dd.

i hadn't made the i own a tree connection until i read about it on mumsnet. there is a 7 yo Iona in my extended family, and i think it is just lovely.

pictish Thu 14-Feb-13 18:47:30

Well seeing as I'm Iona, I think it's a great choice! grin

I like my name, and apart from a short spell aged 5 telling people my name was Julie, I always have.

LingDiLong Thu 14-Feb-13 18:44:30

The welsh Iona is pronounced 'yoh-na', which I think is a bit nicer and side steps the 'i own a' comments

Frikadellen Thu 14-Feb-13 18:11:39

375th in 2011 in England and Wales with 125 named it

63rd in Scotland with 77 named Iona

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Thu 14-Feb-13 17:54:43

Am in Scotland and this name does occur from time to time, perhaps rarer elsewhere? Would not personally be put off by anyone saying "Oh but she'll be saying I own a... ".

Short and unfussy, easy to spell.

Frikadellen Thu 14-Feb-13 17:53:54

oh and not popular and I know 1 She is in her 40 and GORGEOUS inside and out.

Cwtchbach Thu 14-Feb-13 17:53:18

I know a 3 year old Iona, love it!

Frikadellen Thu 14-Feb-13 17:51:57

Its a marmite name and you will without a doubt get " I own a tree" comments.

However I love it as a name I think it is gorgeous and it was our choice for a agirl with ds

YummyMummyFeelingFunny Thu 14-Feb-13 17:04:08

I'm searching like mad for name ideas at the moment and found this today. What do you think, do you know of any and is it popular?
