I quite like Gordon, but DH says that we shouldn't consider it because Gordon in Thomas the Tank Engine is a bit of a twat.

Opinions please??

Are you for real? No. Don't do it to the poor kid.

happyjustobeme Mon 11-Feb-13 22:11:59

Is your surname Bennett?

almostanotherday Mon 11-Feb-13 22:15:00

I would have to say no too sorry op

PurpleStorm Mon 11-Feb-13 22:15:02

No, our surname is not Bennett.

And yes, I'm serious.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight Mon 11-Feb-13 22:16:37

Haven't heard that for years and years. Quite like it (but never watched any Thomas)

DontmindifIdo Mon 11-Feb-13 22:16:57

Here are the famous Gordon's I can think of:

Gordon Brown.
Gordon the Gopher.
Gordon Ramsey.

I don't think I'd like to name a DS after any of those...

I like it. so, it is a bit dated now. it will come back. i love that it is sensible normal name but different. not try hard different. and it is not harry!!!!

WafflesandWhippedCream Mon 11-Feb-13 22:18:29

All the engines in Thomas the tank are a bit of a twat.

Merl0t Mon 11-Feb-13 22:19:36

All ofvthose thomas the tank engine names are usable now imo

blindworm Mon 11-Feb-13 23:05:30

I'd straight away think of Brown or Ramsay.

Nickname27 Mon 11-Feb-13 23:07:23

Horrible word but the first thing that comes to mind is that song "Gordon is a moron".

Ham69 Mon 11-Feb-13 23:25:42

No! It's DH's name and I still struggle with the fact my in-laws named their baby that name. He goes by his surname.

PurpleStorm Tue 12-Feb-13 08:59:30

Looks like most of you are in agreement with DH about not considering it! (IF for different reasons grin )

Off to put my thinking hat on and see what other names sound good....

PandaWatch Tue 12-Feb-13 10:43:41

"Flash Gordon. Quarterback. New York Jets."

curiousgeorgie Tue 12-Feb-13 10:48:03

My friend is called Gordon and hates it. He always says "Why did my parents name me Gordon... I mean really! Can you imagine a little cute baby GORDON??!"

scaevola Tue 12-Feb-13 10:55:22

Unusable to my generation because Gordon is a moron.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 12-Feb-13 11:02:11

Perhaps more often found in Scotland than England but if your DH is really against it, you're probably not going to win this one.

Just for fun am going to suggest Ramsay (another uncommon one!) and Douglas, think they're the same kind of era and nursery won't be awash with them.

sw11mumofone Tue 12-Feb-13 14:02:06

Awful name sorry. About as awful as naming a cute baby Brian! Just not right.

axure Tue 12-Feb-13 14:04:45

Got that Jilted John song in my head now - yeah yeah it's not fair...

PurpleStorm Tue 12-Feb-13 15:38:41

I love Douglas, Donkeys.

But we've already got a Douglas in the family, so that one's out sad

DonkeysDontRideBicycles Tue 12-Feb-13 16:39:06

How about Keir or Rory? Or back to the trains, James (Jamie) or Duncan.

sooperdooper Tue 12-Feb-13 16:42:25

Going against the grain on here but I like it, it's a good solid name and it's not overly used smile

Floralnomad Tue 12-Feb-13 16:45:35

Wasn't the chap in the Brittas Empire called Gordon ? That's enough to put me off gormless Gordon .
