We wanted a name that was down to earth but not too common! Dh wanted something 'manly'!! It's been a long search...

What do you think of Cameron Jack? Does it fit the bill?! I feel comfortable shouting it at the park but might be missing something!

Depends where you are. Where I live, Cameron and Jack are about the two most well used names. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

JaneLane · 06/02/2013 21:22

Jack is very popular where I live but Cameron less so with the younger children and more with the slightly older children.

They are both nice, solid, easily pronounced names - names are popular for a reason normally!

amck5700 · 06/02/2013 21:55

Nothing wrong with either name and CJ makes a nice set of initials.

I know a few Camerons and not a horrible one amongst them.

Where I live (Scotland), it is quite popular but over a number of ages, so no particular age group where there are loads.

Can I also through in Keir (Ciar) or Gregor? slightly less common, still manly. Both survive the back door test :o

Artigene · 06/02/2013 22:17

Cameron reminds me of the Prime Minister.

hellokitty123 · 07/02/2013 08:52

Not sure Cameron is very 'manly' - reminds me either of Cameron Diaz or David Cameron Grin.

And Jack is very very very widely used - I think it was THE most popular boys names for a number of years.

hugahuddy · 09/02/2013 09:15

Thank you very much!! We had the same thoughts on pm and miss Diaz but wondered if it was just us!!! I also didn't realise that it was popular so thank you for that, I'd hate him to get to school and be just another.........

I like max and Alex but dh not convinced! We're overdue now so time is definitely running low!!

Hi

Cameron, Jack, Max, Alex - all popular names!

I think they are all fine but, as you seem to want to avoid a popular name, have a look at this data and then you'll be able to make a more informed decision about which one to go for: www.ons.gov.uk/ons/publications/re-reference-tables.html?edition=tcm%3A77-266770

This is a very user-friendly interpretation of the data too:

Max is a fabulous name and although becoming more popular is not as common as Alex or Jack imho.

At my school there are only 4 Max's out of 660 pupils.

I like Cameron but there's no way I'd use it whilst the current twit is in government.

legallyblond · 10/02/2013 20:10

As others have said, depends where you live. At DHs old school (teacher in east London) there were 4 Camerons in his class of 30 (7 year olds!) (one spelt it Camron).

DessieLou · 11/02/2013 01:50

I like Cameron. And although I'm aware of its popularity I don't actually know any. :-)

poppydaisy · 11/02/2013 11:45

Hard to dis-associate Cameron from David Cameron, I'm afraid. Also don't find the name very masculine, perhaps due to Cameron Diaz?

Timetoask · 11/02/2013 11:48

I think Cameron is great! Don't worry about the PM, your Cameron will be his own little person.
