We live in Spain so are looking at names which work in Spain and the UK. How would you pronounce the following in the UK?

Ines
Agnes
Miren
Edurne
Penelope (pee or pay at the end?!)

Thanks!

Ines - INez
Agnes - AGness
Miren - MIren (as in Helen Mirren the actress!)
Edurne - eDERnay (that's a guess though)
Penelope - peNELohpee

Thank you! Agnes doesn't sound so nice in English, might go with Miren as a middle name and Penelope seems the most bilingual... Lots to ponder!

Ee-NAYS

I personally would not use Ines in the UK if I thought people would put the accent on the first syllable.

Ines is the Spanish form of Agnes -- is that what you mean in your last comment?

I have heard it here as Anyes but we are on the French border so it could be a French influence. I also love a few English names beginning with V but th Spanish would just say 'Bictoria' or Bibienne! It's frustrating because we find out (due to DH contract) when the baby is one whether we will be staying in Spain or returning to the uk so need a name which works ok in both. I love Edith but in Spanish it's like 'edit'...

I went to school with 2 Spanish sisters Susanna and Begonia they were both beautiful and graceful.... No one ever found a problem with either name either.
