What do you think? A bit too old fashioned?

GraceSpeaker Sat 02-Feb-13 10:26:57

It is a bit Victorian, but a nice meaning ('well-born')! She could end up as 'Genie', which wouldn't be too bad.

Dominodonkey Sat 02-Feb-13 16:57:57

Awful. Sorry!

nicelyneurotic Sat 02-Feb-13 17:05:01

I wouldn't, personally, but think it's nice when people go for unusual names

CruCru Sat 02-Feb-13 17:05:47

Oh well. I love it but DH will probably hate it.

Snusmumriken Sat 02-Feb-13 17:05:56

It sounds too much like eugenics.

SPBInDisguise Sat 02-Feb-13 17:06:17

I'm sorry but absolutely not. Did it used to be a name? too many awful associations

Snusmumriken Sat 02-Feb-13 17:08:32

Not to forget this book...

CruCru Sat 02-Feb-13 17:17:47

It was the name of one of Victoria and Alberts children. Also, isn't there a Princess Eugenie?

ImNotaPheasantPlucker Sat 02-Feb-13 17:21:18

Reminds me of Ugenia Lavender by Geri Halliwell.

SPBInDisguise Sat 02-Feb-13 17:38:38

oh yes of course. Eugenie. And strangely I'd never made the connection, yet it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread title
Sorry OP

Don't like it. Reminds me of eugenics, which is not a good association.

baskingseals Sat 02-Feb-13 19:53:38

i was talking about this name today!

i like it, but prefer Eugenie.

Rhubarbgarden Sat 02-Feb-13 20:41:24

I met a toddler Eugenia a couple of years ago. I was a bit shock. Her parents were vair vair posh.

alexpolismum Sat 02-Feb-13 20:54:17

In Greece it's pronounced Evgenia, which I like much better

SoggySummer Sat 02-Feb-13 21:14:00

I really like it.

JazzAnnNonMouse Sat 02-Feb-13 22:39:06

Makes me think of eugenics immediately - sorry!

MidnightMasquerader Sun 03-Feb-13 03:57:38

May I suggest Bonnie as a prettier alternative? wink

BananaHammocks Sun 03-Feb-13 14:30:38

I love it! Can be shortened to Gene or Genie, it is quite geeky but I like that! Whether a teenage Eugenia would feel the same is another thing entirely!

But I have a similar middle name and I have come to love it!

CruCru Sun 03-Feb-13 14:42:21

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't like Bonnie.

MidnightMasquerader Sun 03-Feb-13 16:35:34

Sorry, that was a Gone With The Wind reference. smile

MerlotAndMe Sun 03-Feb-13 16:36:53

I like it.

CruCru Sun 03-Feb-13 17:19:49

Ah. Thanks Midnight, I haven't read it.

BuntyPenfold Sun 03-Feb-13 17:27:19

I love Eugenie. Pretty and sophisticated.

Teapot13 Sun 03-Feb-13 20:42:44

The Russians pronounce it Yevgenia, with Zhenya as a nickname. It's pretty mainstream there.
