Marnie.

I quite like it, think it's much prettier than Ethel. Very different in style though. From Dickensian to Hitchcockian.

She must be on MN though, I'm sure I've seen threads on that name in the last few months.

Congratulations Lil! waves

Sweeter than Ethel. And a brilliant film, too!

They are quite a different style, Marnie's a lot more popular than Ethel too.

Middle name Rose seems a bit unimaginative but I guess as it's Lily's middle name.

Is Marnie usually short for something? Just doesn't feel like a full name.

There's a marnie at work, lovely name.

I love it. It can be a nn for Marina, which I also love.

Horrible name (sorry Lily if you are reading). Ethel is much better.
Marnie sounds unfinished or like marmite.

I quite like Marnie, I have not heard this name before!

I quite like it. Ethel is awful though, sounds like a decrepit old lady, or a chicken.

Much nicer than Ethel. Wasn't it originally a nickname for Margaret?

What a lovely name. I thought it was short for Marianne?

I like it and I like Ethel too.

Marnie is also what Tom Ellis and Tamzin Outhwaite named their second daughter a while back.

Marnie is quite a stylish name imo - Ethel I just don't get!

I love Marnie, it's definitely getting more popular. There was an actress called Marnie something on Neighbours when I was a child (she played Debbie) so I thought it was very cool Grin

Lily Allen's daughter is called Ethel.

We just found this out last month, a few weeks after she was born.

There is no way there has been time for another baby.

Tamzin Outhwaite is married to Tom Ellis? Envy

I have to laugh - being Australian it is very dated to the early '70s. I was almost a Marnie but luckily for me one of my mother's friends used the name for her own DD first.

I'm sure it's a lovely name but it's just the association it has for me.

Lovely. If you like naming your daughter after a frigid kleptomaniac with a disturbed past who is raped by Sean Connery to 'cure' her.

She's stolen the name I was saving for my second child!!! GUTTED!!! Now if I use it, it will look like I'm being all celeb-y! Damn damn damn!

Marnie Facts:

  1. In the 1990s, Marnie Reece-Wilmore played the part of Debbie Martin in "Neighbours", annoying DSis of the even more annoying Hannah Martin and DGD of Helen Daniels

  2. This is the only time I have ever heard the name Marnie, prior to today.
