Orla Alice?

Hi!

Am almost 8 weeks pregnant with DC2. Since I have so much morning sickness, I'm currently pretending to myself that I know this baby is a girl, ha ha.

My DD is called Isobel Edith. We like classic/elegant names that are pretty - I like Eleanor, for instance, but don't like the nn Ellie so we're not going for that. But we're totally stuck on possible names. The only thing we have come up with so far is Orla, which we both think is pretty. We'd like the middle name Alice - DH loves the name (I'm not so keen for a first name), and my great grandmother was called Alice. DH's grandmother was called Edith, so we'd like to keep some sort of family connection in the name.

Worried, though, that Orla Alice could run into one and sound a bit weird: 'Orlalice'.

Any other suggestions for first names, with Alice as a middle name?

Thanks!

Both beautiful names, maybe not together.

I read once, when choosing our babies names, that the end of the first name and the start of the next name shouldn't be the same letter.

Like Orla Alice, George Edward, James Steven, Grace Eleanor

Doesn't mean you can but I do think the names you have said run into each other, but then how often do you say them together? Maybe that 'rule' is more for first name and surname

Like Orla Adams

They do run together. Does it have to be Irish?
What about Evelyn, Mary or Harriet ?

No, it doesn't have to be Irish at all. We just like the name. I am part-Irish, but that's not the reason.

I actually know a George Edward!! But I see what you mean.

Thing is, how often are both names said together ? I couldn't find a middle name to run with Orla , I gave up and she is without one !

Ha ha, it's true it's very hard to match it with a middle name!

Wish we had a longer list of options!

Could you add another middle name in between, eg Orla Rose Alice?

Love Orla by the way!

I really like Orla by the way!

How about Eleanor with Nora as a NN? I really like this and it's on our shortlist, as is Orla!

Orla is great. But a name starting with a vowel after a name that ends with a vowel never works.

There's loads that work with Orla. Something with R would work nice with the R in Orla.

Rain?
Ruby?
Rhiannon?
Ramona?

Thanks! Think Orla Belle could sound a bit like a parody of Isobel, IYSWIM.

Really like the name Violet, and also Vivien, but DH hates them both :(

Like the idea of Orla Rose Alice. Very pretty. Will try it on DH. He'll probably say it's not fair she gets two nicknames while DD1 only gets one, LOL.

Ooh love Nora. We have a slightly weird thing in that my step-aunt and uncle have a daughter Isabella and the aunt is called Nora, so it might look like we're just ploughing their family for names, ha ha. Probably overthinking that though, so that's a nice option. Thanks!

Definitely want Alice as a middle name.

I have an Orla Rose and it gets lots of compliments...an l sound might also work well (not Orla Laura though!)
