It's a girl! Let the naming begin - Rose or Nina?

So we found out we are having a girl to complement our DS1. So I can now thankfully put aside boy names and focus in girls names. Middle name will be Catherine.

Currently we have narrowed it down to Rose or Nina? My son is called George. Another option is Laura.

Your thoughts?

I know one other said they didn't like Nina and I have to agree. Rose is much much nicer. I seem to be I the minority though!

Thanks everybody. Nina goes better with the surname which starts with 'S' and has another 's' in it but I think Rose is better with Catherine although I am not that fussed about the middle name matching. It is my late Aunty's name and I am definitely using it. I also don't like rose as a middle name only because every second girl here has Rose or Grace as the middle name. I just adore Rose as a first name which doesn't even make the top 50 here for some reason.

I think deep down my preference is Rose. My DH I think prefers Nina.

Don't like Nina, sorry. Rose is DN's name and also my very late grandmother so I like it. If you call her Rose and stick to it, she will be Rose. Silent Mammoth, if anyone calls her Rosie, you say her name is Rose. End of. Somebody tried to do that to my DN when she was small. Didn't get past my DM grin. Not that there is anything wrong with Rosie/y if that's what you name a child, but very different name to Rose imo.

Rose (or Rosa?)

FloozieTinsel Fri 28-Dec-12 23:10:05

Xposts, Emmyloo2. Good choice!

DrSeuss Fri 28-Dec-12 23:12:46

I actually like Catherine Rose better. I have an Elizabeth Katherine although she is known as Lizzie or Smelly Brat.

emmyloo2 Fri 28-Dec-12 23:19:39

DrSeuss - I would have Catherine as the first name except it is my SIL's name and my DH refuses to name the child the same name as her. I won't bore you with the details but we don't particularly love her, let's just say that. He is happy to have it as the middle name though.

All great names, use them all

As a teacher, I'm just happy the child has a name. I taught a Tekeila, a Harley Davison and a Marley, as in Bob!

Nina is gorgeous. A strong, cool and unusual name

Rose is very dull.

RiaUnderTheMistletoe Fri 28-Dec-12 23:30:45

I love them both, but Nina (just) takes the lead. Personally I'd wait until your dd is born and see which suits her best.

I vote Laura. Or Lara.

I appear to be one of the few who has never liked the name Nina. Sounds like the sound of a siren to me! Rose and Laura are both gorgeous.

RillaBlythe Sat 29-Dec-12 21:52:30

Both great names. I prefer rosa to rose.
My dd IS Nina Catherine! Catherine is after a relative.

I doubt Rose would become Rosie unless, as with my Dcousin, it was a family pet name.

She's actually Rosemary, but even as a feisty, grown up and married 28 yo she is still petite and beautiful and very very nice.

I couldn't imagine her as anything other than Rosie.

emmyloo2 Sun 30-Dec-12 11:18:31

RillaBlythe - can't believe your DD is Nina Catherine! Are you happy with your name choice? It's so difficult to choose. I really want a name that will carry her throughout her life, if that makes sense..?

SparklingSnow Sun 30-Dec-12 11:19:37

I like Rose. Very pretty.

beanandspud Sun 30-Dec-12 11:25:59

Would you consider Eleanor instead of Nina? I quite like Eleanor Catherine and it goes well with George.

I love Rose but not sure about Rose Catherine together.

Love Rose
