Family names nightmare

DS1 happens to have the same name as DHs paternal GF. He IS NOT named after him, we just happened to like the name.
Am currently pregnant with DC2, which we found out yesterday, is also a boy. Cue lots of hints from MIL about her fathers name- Joseph- and how it would be nice if we used the name for DS2 (she didnt specify 1st name or middle name but i know which she'd prefer!) Now, i've got nothing against the name Joseph, I just dont see it as a name for my child.
She's never been particularly thrilled that DS1 shares FIL's fathers name, as there is no love lost between MIL and FIL and his family! But how do we tell her that we dont particularly like 'Joseph' as a name for one of our children without offending her?
Nay ideas greatfully recieved smile

You have known a truly dreadful Joseph and you'll never be able to separate the name...

Or be honest say you have nothing against the name but it's not a favourite and you want ds2 to have names that you love not just tolerate...

Alternatively say the name needs to come from YOUR side of the family this time.... (then if you wanted to wind her up find a really obscure family name)

Ultimatrely she can suggest all she likes YOU and your DH have the name choice, (even if she named her ds after a GP it does not mean you have to!)

I would say nothing then announce his name as whatever it is. She can hint all she wants it doesn't mean she should get it.

say as you have done here, that you just liked the name it wasn't after FIL and that you intend to choose another name you like. Plus agree with the comment that it should be a name from your side of the family really if it is after someone.

we had this with our DS2. DS1 had a name from my side so MIL suggested FIL's as a middle for DS2. My comment was that we were all already named after FIL due to our surname.

A) pick a name you like B) tell your MIL you have picked a name from your side of the family C) Brief your parents to keep up the lie D) smile sweetly.

or just say nothing, annouce your DS's name when he's born, pretend you never heard the hints about Joseph, fain surprise that she thought you would call him Joseph.

Thanks for the suggestions. We've got plenty of time to think up our excuses before DS2 arrives. But I have a feeling this is something I wont hear the end of for a while! confused
