Watched a film the other day, and the girl was called Finn (Finnegan).
I loved it straight away, am I being nuts? Has anybody ever heard of it being used for a girl in RL? Hmm

Am not even pregnant, TTC, or even sure I actually want another baby.......was a lovely film though! Xmas Grin

I've not heard of Finnegan for a girl but I love Finn. I did know a female Finlay.

Or you could have Fionnuala (Finnoola) shortened to Finn?

Ooh - I love it she, would be ass kickingly cool with a moniker like that!

Finnegan always reminds me of vinegar.
Finn is much nicer for a boy.

Just makes me think "Finnegan, like Judy?", sorry. Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, unless you or your husband are Irish, in which case it's not quite as bad but still a bit wtf?!

I quite like Finn for a girl, but not Finnegan as a full name.

We used to sing this when we were little

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan,
He grew whiskers on his chin-egan,
The wind came out and blew them in again,
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan
He went fishing with a pin-egan,
Caught a fish and dropped it in-egan,
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan,
Climbed a tree and barked his shin-egan,
Took off several yards of skin-egan,
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan,
He kicked up an awful din-egan,
Because they said he could not sing-egan,
Poor old Michael Finnegan, begin again.

There was an old man named Michael Finnegan,
He got fat and then got thin again,
Then he died and had to begin again,
Poor old Michael Finnegan?STOP!

Alis - I don't think we did the very end bit, or perhaps we just couldn't sing it. Our version was poor old Michael Finnegan-igin-igin.

I had a female friend called Finn at college. No idea if her full name was Finnegan, but we did sing that song to her. She loved it. Everyone had a song/joke/nickname - it was part of being in the group.

She got married last year, and had the rhyme printed on the table her college friends sat at.

I know a female Finlay known as Finn. Seems like names are becoming more unisex - I know a female Elliot (Ellie) and a lot of Alexes and Morgans of either gender.

I know a small female Finn - her mum is from the US. She calls her Finchie as a nn, which is so sweet.

Wasn't there a female Finn on Home and Away many many years ago?

it's a boy's name to me. Used to be a favourite, but DH spoiled it saying our son might end up fat, and school would be cruel if he was called Finn.

PS DS turned out think as a rake and nearly six feet now. Sigh.

Shock Grin Shock

A million times NO. It's a really common Irish surname that would sound bizarre on a boy but even more bizarre on a girl.

NO!!!!!

I used to know a female Finn (she might have been Finlay on bc) so I wouldn't think it was unusual. Names change associations over time so I don't see why a girl can't be named Finnegan (even though it wouldn't be my personal choice).

as in old Michael?
no!
not for a boy or a girl, unless their surname was Finnegan and Finn was their nickname

There was a female Finn on Home and Away - short for Finlay. I love that name, not so sure about Finnegan for a girl though.

ElizaDay has saved me the trouble!

Also Finnegan's Wake. It is a surname!

Finnoula is a female given name.
