Ok so here are my boy and girl names shortlisted so far. We're not discussing names with anyone, friends or family and I'm feeling like I need to air them to someone!! My personal favourites from the ones below are:

Theo(dore) Arthur for a boy and Lotte Emmeline for a girl.

I know the girls one is unusual but I just can't get it out of my head so feel it may be the one. We already have a ds who is 6 and called Louis.

This is my first time posting so please be nice!!

Boys
Arlo
Arthur
Beau
Dexter
Hugo
Jude
Milo
Rudy
Rufus
Theo

Girls
Cassie
Emmeline
Esme
Esther
Freya
Isla
Lila
Lotte
Penelope
Tahlia

I love Lotte Emmeline - beautiful! Theo Arthur is also lovely. My favourites from your lists too :)

Your boy's list is almost identical to my short list when I had my DS and your girl's list is fairly similar too!
The only girl's names I'm not so keen on are Freya, Isla and Tahlia. Not so keen on Penelope but not sure why!
Love the rest and all the boy's names. My DS and DD's names are there so clearly you have great taste!

Both names seem nice, although a little unsure if I am saying Lotte correctly.

Boys - I actally prefer Arthur to Theo/Theodore. Infact Arthur is by far my favourite from your list.

Girls - I probably like Freya best from your list.

I like Arthur, Rufus and Jude best from the boys' list. Theo is nice enough. I don't like Arlo very much - think it's really increasing in popularity, too, if that matters - and Hugo and Rudy are my least favourite by a long way.
Lotte Emmeline is lovely. Love Esther too. Freya and Tahlia I'm not so keen on.
So - in summary! - I'd say Arthur Rufus and Lotte Emmeline.

how do you pronunce Lotte?

Not sure about any of the boys names but if I had to pick one it would be Theo.
Love Lotte and called my daughter Charlotte, thinking she would've been Lotte but Charlotte suits her so well we've never shortened it.
Have you thought of Lanty, short for Atalanta? Love it but already know one.
Good luck choosing and congrats in advance Grin

Really not sure about 'Beau' - it sounds nice. But it means beautiful in France - I imagine they won't be too nice to him if he goes there. And he's BOUND to go to France at some point...

Lotte and Louis sounds a bit twee to me, but just my opinion.

Milo and Esme for me.

Great names, but in combination Theo Arthur sounds like a tongue twister, too many 'th's. Also I think Lotte Emeline will develop the invisible R in between a name which ends in a vowel and the start of a name beginning with a vowel : LotteRemmeline. Or if you try and observe the 2 vowel sounds, Lotte Emmeline, it's awkward.

My top faves fom your lists would be Arlo and Milo (NOT together), and Cassie, Lotte and Tahliah. What about Nancy?

I dislike Tahlia (sounds made up) and Dexter (serial killer), and think that Beau is more of a burden than a name, but otherwise they're all nice strong names. Lotte is nice, although some (me, at least) might assume it was a diminutive of Charlotte.

My favourites from your boys list are Arthur, Jude and Rufus. Arlo and Dexter are nice too, but a bit 'of the moment'. The only ones I dislike are Beau and Rudy.

The girls' list isn't quite so much my taste, but I like Lotte and Emmeline. Esther's growing on me too. Most of the others are fine, just not really my style. Don't like Tahlia though.

Agree dexter reminds serial killer. Love Arthur, theo, rufus and Jude- all names i have on my boys list. Rudy a bit silly!!

Not sure about lotte-- is it said like lottie or lot? Lottie is really sweet but lot just doesn't sound like a name? You might have lots of spelling and pronunciation problems. Freya and Isla are my favourites really pretty and both would go with Louis well I think.

Thanks everyone for your input! It's such a relief that we haven't chosen anything too weird!

I would pronounce Lotte 'Lotta' but prefer the other spelling. I know this may cause pronunciation problems too but what is really niggling me is that it is trying too hard to be 'different'. I looked on the England and Wales name popularity survey and there were only 12 babies named this last year and where I live in NI I reckon it would be 0. I don't want a 'popular' name, far from it but don't want to burden a potential dd with a name that no one can pronounce or people think is 'weird'. Having said that I do live in N Ireland where I can't pronounce half the names....I am from England originally.
I do love Freya and I know the name means goddess of fertility or something along those lines. OUr baby took over 4 years to conceive so this seems particularly appropriate but it's just so darned popular!

As for boys, I agree Dexter is out (and I have seen most of the seasons of this prog) but figured it would be long gone by the time junior was old enough to be teased at school. Also although I LOVE Jude dh really not for it so will have to let that one go, sniff. Theo Arthur feels comfortable and right (Arthur both our grandfathers names, mine and dh) but will have to run it by a good friend who also called her first child Theo eek!

Thanks again MN'ers!
