I love it, its one of my middle names though so I'm a bit bias.

I think its uncommon without being too 'out there'.

Would you be happy with it being shortened to Mari or Anne though?

It's a mumsnet fave! Very nice too. Reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song.

I love it. Was on my dc2 list but we had a boy.

She was a crazed goddess of chaos on True Blood. But a cool one.

Love it too but I love Sense and Sensibility too. Now report your own thread to get it deleted before you start a trend.

I'm in a minority here but not a fan, sounds simultaneously tarty and old-fashioned. Marianne to me wears too much makeup, bleached hair, slightly overweight and not v bright but generous of spirit.

It's a lovely Leonard Cohen song IIRC.

I like it.

Love it. We wanted it for dd1 (that or Miranda - literary names!) but it didn't go with dp's surname. I don't think it would be shortened to Ann. We would have shorted it to Marri or even to Mimi.

It is on my list as a middle name but I am not convinced as a first name except perhaps with nickname Annie.

I love it too Smile

It was on my list for dd but dh vetoed. Why? I have no idea.

Lovely, uncommon but not weird, kooky or try hard either. What's not to like?

Marianne Faithfull was on telly other night. She was gorgeous, so serene looking but apparently they were all on drugs in the music world in them days

Classic but not that used. It's pretty but still strong. I know one and she's lovely. An adult not a child. I don't know any children called Marianne! There should be one so go for it.

Grin hugoagogo. It is absolutely my favourite and my best.

Know two Mariannes, one in her twenties, one six months old. Neither name is ever shortened. It's a lovely name.

I have one...she's eight months. I love the name, obviously.

I'm not one of those who hates it when other people want to use a name. I love hearing of other Marianne fans. We haven't met any other tiny ones yet so I think it's pretty unusual but, as someone else said, it's not kooky or out there.

Definitely not tarty, imo either! To me, it's fresh and a bit edgy whilst also being pretty. Hope that makes sense...

I know a lovely grown up Marianne so the name has positive vibes for me.
I think it is elegant and graceful and unusual without being wacky.
If you get my drift...
