What do you think??

9MonthsToMakeYou Tue 20-Nov-12 12:58:35

Hunchback of Notre Dame.

ClementineandLilac Tue 20-Nov-12 13:07:10

Oops it's spelled Esmeralda......I don't really care about any Hunchback associations tbh. It's what people think of the name itself I want to get a feel for. Tanx

I like it with Esme as nickname

Rhubarbgarden Tue 20-Nov-12 13:09:24

A bit long and frilly for my taste.

It makes me think of a bit of a madam, sorry! Same ilk as Araminta - I like the sound of the name but just makes me think of a bit of a spoilt princess.

I do love Esme though.

'Esmerelda' is a variant spelling - it's Granny Weatherwax's name, from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels!

Gwennan Tue 20-Nov-12 16:12:38

I think it is a bit over the top.

squoosh Tue 20-Nov-12 16:41:25

Frilly with a capital FRILL.

Alisvolatpropiis Tue 20-Nov-12 17:20:32

I rather like it. But I am partial to "frilly" girls names,Hermione is my favourite.

Felicitywascold Tue 20-Nov-12 17:25:48

I wouldn't put in the same category as Hermione.

Esmerelda, to me? It sounds clunky, and ugly. And it puts me in mind of comedy drag acts and pantomimes.

Sorry. I'm guessing that's not what you wanted to hear.

squoosh Tue 20-Nov-12 17:27:53

Esemerelda makes me think of someone who is very into Amateur Dramatics, has dyed red hair and is the proud owner of many, many chiffon scarves.

Alisvolatpropiis Tue 20-Nov-12 17:39:09

Lol squoosh!

I have a friend named Esmerelda. She's trilingual and an extremely talented dressage rider who's competed in Europe and Australia.

We love it...mainly thanks to a v beautiful song in Notre Dame de Paris. But reactions have been v strong against it which put us off a bit...
