And do you prefer George or James as mn?

raf0911 Sat 17-Nov-12 14:42:06

My best friend named hers Jasper, i totally disliked it at first as i could only associate it with cats and dogs. However Jasper is now Jasper he has become the name and i really like it now (he's generally called Jas a lot of the time) Cool popular kid and there are no others in his class at school but i reakon it is one of those names which will become more popular.

And Cornwall!

Somerset (the really rural bits.....!)

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 21:28:33

Thank you MikeOxard x

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 21:28:00

Nope, where's that Rempy?

Geranium3, I'm hoping that will be the case. I've told DH that we should settle on a shortlist and then decide when we know what he/she looks like...if my cunning plan works then he will hopefully let me choose my favourite because of the awesome thing I had just done grin

I love Jasper and both mns would go well imo. He would probably get Jass or Jasp for short, which is ok I think, most people probably wouldn't shorten it anyway as it's quite a short name already. Good luck ttc, I wish you a little Jasper (or other name you choose) very soon. x

rempy Thu 15-Nov-12 21:13:42

I'm guessing you don't live in the part of the country where Jasper means wasp?

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 21:12:37

I found girls names far easier to choose,
I didn't have any boys but at the time i would have chosen probably oscar or edward but now love raphael!
You will probably randomly hear or read a name one day and think:that's the name!
You may wonder why i only say i and not mention dh'schoices of names but believe me they end up being so in awe of you after pregnancy and labour, that you could call dc what ever you wanted!!!!

I love Jasper! I know a Jasper, he gets Jay very occassionally, but most people have always just called him Jasper or a nickname that is not based at all on his name.

I think Jasper James works well actually, although normally I wouldn't like names with the same letters, but this sounds nice.

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:59:24

Nope...I trawled through the top 300 girl's names the other day and didn't love any of them. Whoops!

We'd want a classic but not too 'old lady' name... but think it's going to take a while to find the right balance between the two!

How on earth do you choose? confused

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:54:24

good luck!
have you any ideas for girl's names?

Alisvolatpropiis Thu 15-Nov-12 20:40:28

Jasper James has a ring to it.

Love love love Jasper!

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:37:08

Awww thanks Geranium3, that made my day!

We're actually not pregnant yet, have my appointment to have the Implanon removed on Monday though so hopefully won't be long! Have wanted this for so so long...hope it doesn't take us long.

I'm already obsessed with names and am going to be insufferable nearer to the time...poor DH!

PrannyHamster Thu 15-Nov-12 20:30:18

I love Jasper. Also Kasper. I would use either of these were it not for it being unworkable with my surname.

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:27:45

if you think rupert is a little too much, how about
or ralph
sadly no more dc for me but if i had a ds iwould call him raphael, love it!
KatyAnn,if you are having a winter/christmas baby, how about Gabriel?
You sound a lovely mummy even if you had a ds called rupert!!!

ilovetermtime Thu 15-Nov-12 20:25:19

I knew a Jasper at school, he got teased a lot for being a wasp!

(but I haven't heard anyone call a wasp a jasper for ages, so perhaps it won't happen to your DS)

Strangely, I love the name George for a girl (think Famous Five) but really don't like it for a boy (Boy George?).

Love James though smile

tammytoby Thu 15-Nov-12 20:20:32

I think Rupert is nicer than Jasper. Jasper James or Jasper George are too 'j' sounding for me.

Rupert James sounds lovely imo.

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:17:38

Geranium3...she knew it was my favourite but her response was...give birth before me and you can have it (she was 6 months pregnant at the time!)

I've made her out to be a bitch but she isn't really, and little Georgie really suits her name grin

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 20:15:36

DH loves Felix. I wasn't sure but it's growing on me...

Also like Elliot and Rupert (in fact LOVE Rupert but I think I would be a bad mummy if we chose that one sad)

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 19:58:37

naughty sister!!!!
as long as you love jasper that's all that matters
but how about
good luck!

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 19:38:36

Geranium3 - George was always going to be my baby boy name ever since I was little, but my sister has since called her daughter Georgie...grrr!

Geranium3 Thu 15-Nov-12 19:36:51

not too keen on jasper, quite a harsh name, prefer george jasper

KatyAnn28 Thu 15-Nov-12 19:36:36

I know it's not odd and I have always loved it! The only thing that's stopping me is the fact that there aren't any obvious nns (except Jay or Jaz which I'm not a fan of) which means there would be nowhere for him to hide if he didn't like it...and it is a bit of a marmite name!

Don't like alliterative names at all, sorry. James is nice though.

Yama Thu 15-Nov-12 19:34:47

Prefer Jasper George.
