Potential problems with Imogen

hi all,

we're really stuck with deciding on a name for our baby girl - i really like Imogen but i'm worried about the nn Immy and our surname of Kent (replace the 'e' and it becomes rather rude). Am i being silly?

The alternative is Larissa. Any other suggestions for us?

Mn would probably be Nancy Ann

cheers all

You must be as I've looked at that post like this HmmConfusedHmm for about 5 mins and can't work it out.

Go with Imogen it's lovely.

I couldn't figure it out either, thought it must just be me!

II really love Imogen. It's so pretty. I think you're worrying about "Kent" is unfounded...nobody would think to look at "I Kent" and see anything rude!

Is that what bothers you?

I know what you mean about "Immy"...but almost ALL names can be lengthened or shortened into not so nice versions. My niece is Amy...she's Ame all the time!

Immy Kent/ I'm a cunt- is that the worry?
I have a filthy mind, and it didn't occur to me until you mentioned it- I think it'd be fine to be honest. Imogen is a lovely name Smile

Oh ok I see ... Not rude at all.

I went to school with an A. Kent and nobody ever thought anything of it.

Nope I really don't think there is a problem there Smile

I have an Imogen too and also hate Immy (my stepmother is the only one who persists with that despite being asked not to, but she lives abroad so not too much of an issue)

We're a bit of a nicknames family, so other than Imogen I also call her Gingin, which is how she pronounced Imogen at first.

I don't see a problem with the combo with the surname either :)

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. I went through my whole childhood/teenage years/20s with that surname and the cunt thing literally never came up!

I used to have a friend called Imogen who was known as genny. Does that help?

Larissa is much nicer than Imogen.

Good idea to look at a name from all angles, but no, you've overthunk that.

I do like Larissa though.

I love Imogen - it is probably my number one, and I also love the shortening of Immy.

I personally don't really get the problem (maybe I am saying it wrong) and anyway, when she says her full name with surname she'll probably not say Immy but Imogen.

GFI.

p.s not keen on Larissa as an alternative. And: what if she has a lisp?

LoonyRationalist · 15/11/2012 14:37

Definitely over thinking!!

My cousin is an Imogen and gets called Imo or Ginny.

I get what your saying about Immy Kent - maybe you need to say it in the right accent for it to sound wrong IYSWIM?

I can't stand the name Imogen though, so probably not going to be much help to you, sorry. The only Imogen I know is 38 and has always hated her name too. I can't understand why it's so popular again.

My cousin's dgd is Imogen known as Jinny.

love Larissa, not sure about Imogen

I prefer Imogen, and think you've overthunk.

Don't like Larissa - too frilly for me. The only one I know calls herself Lara instead.

DontmindifIdo · 15/11/2012 21:07

I like Imogen, but I think you could try to encourage the nickname Ginny if you're not sure about Immy.

Imogen is lovely although it does seem awfully frequent at the moment. Not very keen on Larissa, I went to school with one who was known as rizla...

Only now you mention it, but once you notice....
Imogen is nice, if a little popular ATM.
Love Larissa.
