I know Nye is usually an abbreviation fir Aneurin but I really don't like Aneurin while I love Nye.

What do people think?

Have no other point of reference for it.

AnyaKnowIt Sat 10-Nov-12 20:31:16

Makes me think of New Years Eve

RTchoke Sat 10-Nov-12 20:34:59

I quite like the Bevan association.

maxmillie Sat 10-Nov-12 20:36:11

It's odd. But I like it. I also like Aneurin.

My mum named her welsh terrier after Aneurin Bevan, he gets called Nye for short. Sorry not for me.....

picnicbasketcase Sat 10-Nov-12 20:38:37

Aneurin is a bit uriney. Agreed re New Years Eve too.

Do you like Niall?

EBDTeacher Sat 10-Nov-12 22:15:30

Is it said Nie (rhyming with my )? If so I would always assume it was Office style short for Nigel which would make it pretty uncool in my book.

MoelFammau Sat 10-Nov-12 22:30:00

I like it.

manicinsomniac Sat 10-Nov-12 22:35:35

There was a Nye in my year at school and I didn't even know he was called Aneurin until we were in 6th form. I just knew he was Welsh and thought Nye was a Welsh name.

So no, I don't think it would be odd. You accept the people you meet as being the names they are don't you.

HarlettOScara Sat 10-Nov-12 22:41:47

I thought that this was going to be a thread about New Year's Eve.

As a name, it's a no from me.

yousankmybattleship Sat 10-Nov-12 22:42:59

No. Sorry.

sashh Sun 11-Nov-12 05:37:10

I worked with a Nye years ago.

CountryMama Sun 11-Nov-12 11:19:19

My 3 yr olds best friend is a nye and he is completely brilliant so I have only positive feelings towards the name. The only thing his mum gets cross about is people thinking he's called Nile. Go for it. smile

FunnysInLaJardin Sun 11-Nov-12 11:21:32

I really like it and it was on our list for DS2. The only thing was I don't like Aneurin and I didn't want to give DS2 just a nick name

Alisvolatpropiis Sun 11-Nov-12 12:15:02

I don't think it works as a standalone name. Aneurin is a fabulous name <hard stare for the naysayers>

Flojo1979 Sun 11-Nov-12 12:19:29

I like it.

Viviennemary Sun 11-Nov-12 12:22:11

I don't like it at all. It sounds really strange.

SufferingLampreys Sun 11-Nov-12 12:23:35

I don't think as a standalone name either

But I like aneurin

MoelFammau Mon 12-Nov-12 11:06:01

I prefer Nye. The full name reminds me of aneurysm.
