If you have any knowledge of the bible or any connections to sea-farers or have ever read any James Herbert I'd avoid it . A Jonah is a person believed to bring bad luck to those around them

Love it our dd was gonna be a jonah if she had been boy, I had people mentioning the 'bad luck' thing but didnt put us off it's a lovely name and quite unusual

The bad luck is just weird. Man falls off a boat, is swallowed by giant sea creature, and doesn't die ? Isn't that the luckiest man that ever lived?

Great name.

I love it and even though I had a very religious upbringing it doesn't scream bad luck to me. He survived, had a conversion and went out to preach didn't he? (the religious upbringing was now some decades ago :)).

I love it and as in the very early stages of pregnancy with no 2 suggested it to dp. was not good as he started off with 'hey Mr churchhill' finishing with 'wish i was at home for Christmas!' -if you don't get the reference you are too young!

but don't let that put you off as i love it!

It may not be that important to you, but since it's a name strongly associated with a bible story it would be worth reading the whole story (it's only a few pages long but there's more to it than the whale). IMO Jonah is not portrayed in a great light, he's a bit of a moany pants, though hardly in the same league as calling a child Judas or Herod!

Jonah is a lovely name. It means dove and synonymous with peace, as doves are a symbol of peace.

Good choice OP!

Lovely choice! DS3 was going to be Jonah, but then he was unexpectedly 10lb4oz and DH went off the idea Hmm. However, he is now Laurie which suits him down to the ground Smile.
