I have become a serial poster of baby name questions, my apologies!

Think we have pretty much decided (other names having been vetoed by DH) on Perdy. Was going to go with full name Perdita, but I just don't like it. DH has his heart set on Perdy.

So, firstly, what are your thoughts on Perdy as a name in its own right? I know it means lost, which is a bit negative but I'm not too worried about that.

(I also love the names Juno, Mila and Anouk but all have been vetoed)

Secondly, Middle names!

Perdy Matilda
Perdy Anouk
Perdy Harriet
Perdy Juno

Any other suggestions? I'm sensing I need a long middle name to go with it but brain not functioning. Thanks Mumsnetters!

But you know she will be known as Pervy don't you. Don't do it. Sorry.
Perdita is nice though if a little Jilly Cooper.

I would go for Purdy like the girl in the Avengers (I think) . The slight change of spelling removes the association IMHO.

Good luck!

That's what my aunt said! But to me Purdy sounds like ..purdy're so purdy etc etc

*looks like

AKissIsNotAContract Tue 06-Nov-12 21:39:16

I like it, it makes me think of 101 Dalmatians.

I love all your suggested names & think Perdy is great.

My favourite with your suggested middle names is Perdy Matilda grin

my grandad had a male friend called Perdy

Pancakeflipper Tue 06-Nov-12 21:40:53

Pervy.... oh Turniphead, that's ruined it.

mummabug Tue 06-Nov-12 21:42:20

pancakeflipper haha!

Perdita is a lovely name but Perdy just makes me think of the American deep south "isn't she perrrrrdy?" or the shotguns. Different spelling I know (Purdey) but I couldn't call my daughter the same name as a gun.

armedtotheteeth Tue 06-Nov-12 21:46:06

Really not keen on Perdy - makes me think of "pretty" in a drawly accent. (same as you said for Purdy)

I think Perdita is much better sorry! I'm never a fan of short forms / nicknames on the birth certificate though personally.

Ummm, no. Please don't

NellyBluth Tue 06-Nov-12 21:51:15

Very Jilly Cooper, sorry. But Harriet/Hattie, and Matilda are lovely.

Anonymumous Tue 06-Nov-12 21:55:27

Sorry, I think it's too much like Pervy as well.

DottieRose Tue 06-Nov-12 21:56:34

I thin Perdy is very cute, it has an upper class quirky feel to it!

Perdy Juno is fantastic! How about Prudence shortened to Perdy? Or Persephone could also have Perdy derived from it!

cherrypiew3 Tue 06-Nov-12 22:03:29

Perdy is sweet and I like Matilda for a second name.

Rhubarbgarden Tue 06-Nov-12 22:04:27

Perdita is beautiful. Perdy isn't.

MaryAstor Tue 06-Nov-12 22:05:12

I've nothing against shortened names being on birth certificates as a rule, but in this case, I sort of feel that because Perdy is really quite unusual it appears... made up?....unless it's a nickname rather than a full name. IYSWIM (I'm not sure I do!)

I know you hate Perdita (shame - I think it's nice and I know a lovely one), so would you maybe go for Persephone as the 'official' name?

Plus, how can she not be awesome if she's named after the queen of the underworld?

Turniphead1 Tue 06-Nov-12 22:05:42

Why would Perdy be a diminution of Prudence? Other than the fact that they both behind with "p".

Turniphead1 Tue 06-Nov-12 22:07:49

Oooh yes! Maryastor (great name). I LOVE Persephone.

You could shorten it to Persey. Which is lovely. (Doesnt maybe me think of Pervey - not sure why) .

akaemmafrost Tue 06-Nov-12 22:08:33

It sounds like a budgies name, sorry but that was my very first thought.

MaryAstor Tue 06-Nov-12 22:08:36

Oh jesus, call her Perdy rather than Perdy-short-for-Prudence.

Prudence really is Godawful. Sounds like 'prunes' and 'Poo-dence' (there is a connection there.)

redrubyshoes Tue 06-Nov-12 22:09:42,r:1,s:0,i:72 Makes me think of the Purdey haircut I had when I was seven. Sorry.

Wow longest linkie ever!!

RonettePulaski Tue 06-Nov-12 22:11:15

very jilly cooper, that's not necessarily a bad thing, 80% of my baby name list is jilly characters

Perdita is a bit sad though. It means lost sad
