Or is there another spelling? Confused And which do you prefer?

I always thought belle was the more pleasing spelling because it means beautiful, whereas bel is just 3 letters tacked on the end of Anna ;) But really either spelling works fine IMO. I

I think Annabel is the most common spelling, but I know one Annabelle too. Both are lovely.

I think there's also Anabel, but that would be more common in Spanish/Portuguese-speaking countries.

ANNABELLE (758) ANNABEL (486) ANABELLE (75) ANNABELL (34) ANABEL (33) ANABELL (4) ANNABELLE-ROSE (3)

Source: British Baby Names

Annabelle is the most popular spelling but I find it looks very fussy and frilly; I much prefer the simplicity of Annabel.

I prefer -bel. I find -belle too frilly.

However you choose to spell it, your friends and family will present you with all the alternative spellings in Christmas and birthday cards as they seemingly can't actually read the cards you send them with the correct one.

We have an Annabel but her name almost always gets mis-spelt: Anabel, Anabell, Annabel, Annabelle, Anabelle have all featured on cards and letters. So I agree with pollywolly - be prepared for different spellings.

Agree with some others, the 'belle' ending is too frilly.

Annabel. It's lovely.

Anything '-belle' smacks of violent pink dresses made of synthetic netty fabric.

I also like Arabel, if you're open to suggestions.

Annabel is much nicer. Agree that Annabelle is fussy and frilly.

Annabelle is fussy sounding - to me Annabel seems the most correct spelling

Annabel. But then I prefer Isabel/Isobel to the more popular Isabelle spelling. Also, Annabel doesn't get autocorrected...a win in my eyes! :)

I think Annabelle frilly and cutesy and little girly and ick and Annabel the perfect name v high on my list.

My Annabel was born in May and we actually originally registered her as "Annabelle". Which is perfectly pretty and all, except I was suddenly struck by an overwhelming feeling that she should be an "Annabel" instead of an "Annabelle" and I couldn't rest until I'd had her birth certificate amended!!! I seriously went to all that trouble just for the sake of scrapping two letters - I must have been hormonal, haha! Grin

But she is an Annabel instead of an Annabelle though - I can't explain it! Wait to see your bubba and decide when you see her maybe?!

(Don't even get me started on the fuss over the middle name as well)! Blush

If Annabelle is fussy, what about Annabella - that has to be one step further, actually makes me feel a bit sea sick, bobbing up and down between all 3 As :o

I prefer the simpler version, but you will get 'lle due to the popularity of Isabelle.

I have an Anabelle as h and I couldn't agree. He wanted Anabel and I wanted Annabelle. We chose that spelling as we planned to call her Belle. She's a definite Ana. We really cocked up her name... its never spelled correctly.

Annabel

But as others have said don't get hung up on it. No one will ever spell it correctly even when replying to a text you have just sent with your daughter's name in it!
