So scan revealed it's a boy!

Looking for a vintagey but not madly popular name, current ideas DH and I both like are

Arthur
Rupert
Henry (too popular?)
Leonard
Herbert/ Herbie
Elton
Franklin
Aidan (lost its vintage feel?)
And the wildcard -Tavish?!

What do you think?

Love Patrick and Arthur. Both great names. Not keen on the rest Smile

I like Henry but the rest don't do much for me, sorry

Aidan. But then I'm biased about that one.

Claude (known as George) on one side of my family, Kenneth on the other

Both vetoed by dp and me but might be more to your taste?

Henry is very popular.
I like Arthur and Franklin.
Don't like Leonard or Aiden.
What about Albert or Alfred?

We had Leonard on our final list so i say go with that, i also like Rupert, Patrick, Arthur and Herbie (but not Herbert). We went with Laurence (Laurie) in the end which i'm told is quite 'old man'

I love Patrick, but I've never been able to use it as DH doesn't like it.

Not too keen on the others, sorry. How about Francis, rather than Franklin, for a name that can be shortened to Frank/Frankie?

Arthur! I love it!

Thanks all -not much consensus but Arthur relatively well liked?

Forgot to add that Rex is on the list, though I'm guessing that's a marmite one!

Other contenders are

Gabriel
Gilbert
Kingsley

Are these getting worse not better?!

Getting worse. I think Gilbert sounds like you're taking the piss.

Gabriel is nice, I wouldn't say its vintage and is quite popular.

Kingsley is alright, to me it has the same connotations as names like Leighton, Clayton, Leroy, Travis etc not really vintage.

Arthur I like.

What about (an I'm basically trying to remember my granddads friends)

Reg
Albert
Winston
Ted (think he was an Edward)
Wally (was a walter)
Nelson
Stanley
Isaac
Hector
Charlie/Archie/Bobby/Harry/Freddie
Sidney
Monty

Barnaby
Wilfred
Frank?

I like Rupert from your list but not really keen on any of the rest and I agree wholeheartedly with ruby, Gilbert would be cruel!

Gilbert? As in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Please don't do it!

Gabriel is nice!

Kingsley is a bit much though I too like it,in theory.

Arthur is the stand out name I think. Arthur Gabriel sounds great as a first/middle combination.

I actually like Gilbert (I think down to a teenage crush on Jonathan Crombie as Gilbert Blythe in Anne of Green Gables but I'm painfully aware that no one else seems to. I like Arthur, Henry, Franklin, Patrick and Gabriel.

Miles? Cyrus? Silas? Rufus? Wilfred?
