What type of names do you love? Classic, quirky, place names?,names beginning with a particular letter, royalty, names associated with nature,or from literature?
Do you continue a family name or name them after a musician or author you admire?

Hippy, nature inspired, unusual, out there

sonniboo · 04/11/2012 21:24

I seem to love 'pretentious' names too Smile.

Unusual but not ridiculous. Suspect we'd find it much harder if we had a boy to name.

I get no say in the names of our children. Our next child will come along already named! Saved us all the arguments as I'm a bit hippy whilst DH is very traditional. We would have never agreed.

Not overused (outside top 100), classic and elegant. Love names that are sometimes called 'pretentious' on mumsnet.

Who chooses your names clai?

I like pretty names but I only have girls, I would like quite traditional names for boys I.e Michael or Daniel.

My naming style is unusual and underused sounding pretty to my ear

Dh's is classic and non biblical

then throw in our agreement that it has to be pronounced the same in Danish and English and you end up with

Classical names that are underused and non biblical

thankfully we only had 1 boy

We love classic, quirky, underused names, sometimes described as 'posh' on mumsnet.

I love underused, lovely, classic names. Not a fan of 'trendy' or 'fashionable' names.

Another fan here of the slightly old fashioned, underused and maybe a little posh, DS1 has a Hebrew name and DS2 a quirky name popular in the 1920's.

bigbluebump · 04/11/2012 21:59

We too like classic, old fashioned names names that aren't too popular. DS's name sometimes called 'posh' on here, so I guess I like posh names Smile.

Traditional, easy to spell, non-faddy first name. Quirkier middle names. It leaves them the option to reinvent themselves later if they want.
Also, their first names are readily recognised in various languages, so they're portable names. Their middle names, not so much. Their first-name/last name combination isn't unusual, but their first name / middle name / middle name / surname combination is unique to them.
