I love Khurshid but wonder if it?s maybe a bit too ?adult? for a tiny baby! Do you know any baby Khurshids? If not what about the others on our shortlist? Open to other suggestions in a similar style!

I like Fareeha and Parveen.

If I had to pick one it would be Fareeha though.

Fareeha. That's a beautiful name.

My alltime favourite Muslim girls' name is Shabnam. From the names you've listed, I like Parveen best. I think Farida is nicer than Fareeha.

Love the meaning of Khurshid - could you shorten it when she's small so she can have the 'grown-up' full name later?

Love Parveen & Fareeha.

Fareeha definitely. Lovely name.

Shaz, I thought Khurshid was a boys' name, but I gather (from Wiki) that it's a girls' name too! To me, it just sounds rather more like a boys' name.

I know a Fariha, and prefer that spelling. Its a beautiful name. Also know a Nabiha, which I think is lovely.

Parveen is also nice, but not keen on Khurshid.

I think that to a British ear, Kurshid sounds like a male name, though it might be just me. Love both your other suggestions though.

I like Parveen best, then Fariha and then Khurshid.

Thanks so much for the replies.

Shabnam is a nice name, but I'm Shazia, so the nicknames would be too similar as Shabnams are nearly always called Shab, and I'm known as Shaz.

Waheeda I really don't like (but I've got a nasty aunt called Waheeda so that's probably why!)

Nabiha is pretty but we want a name that has Pakistani heritage.

I love Khurshid (it is a unisex name, but that's partly why I like it) because it sounds really feisty and not little-girly...but you all hate it! Sad Is it just too boyish?

I just didn't realise Khurshid was a name you could give to a girl, but I'm no expert on Muslim names! The meaning is beautiful. Is it pronounced with a long or short second syllable - Khurshid or Khursheed?

I worked in a school with a high percentage of Asian students but never came across the name Kurshid. I would have taken it for a boy's name without knowing any better, I think that is everyone's concern.

Fareeha sounds more like a girl to western ears and Parveen I love (knew a couple of lovely Parveens) and would be better known maybe?
