What do you think? Do you know any? I like it but my dm says it is awful and reminds her of Cornelius which is awful, yet I keep coming back to it! Also I don't love any of the obvious nn, but would hope that within the family we would stick to full name.

Also, don't know any!
My dd is called something that rhymes with Cordelia but when we chose it, it was really rare, now it is REALLY popular.......

My friend's DTs are called Cordelia and Layla, but they call her Cordy which I think totally ruins a lovely name!

I do like it but it makes me think of King Lear and so doesn't have happy connotations, if you're bothered about that kind of thing!

I know a Cordelia, I think it's lovely. She is also known as Cordy.

Yeahbuddy that is my fear....a beautiful name being ruined by a god awful nn. It won't be a problem at home and within the extended family as people will call the child what we ask them to but it's at school etc. which worries me.

I don't really like it much, I also thought of King Lear. I know a couple of people called Cornelia but they are both middle-aged.

Bit posh for my taste!

Kdiddy the king Lear association doesn't bother me....I actually studied it for my leaving cert.....wasn't she a nice character though!?!

I really like it!

The Shakespeare link wouldn't put me off at all. Cordelia, along with Hermione, were the only flawless female characters in all of Shakespeare's works (studied it)

I love it, love the Shakespeare connotation, and it would be on my shortlist if my best friend hadn't named her cat Cordelia!

They do sound fabulous together! :)

PS apparently there was a Cordelia in Buffy? I've never watched it but it seems to be a connection for some people

It's a nice name, but the Cordelia in Lear is the most awful prissy wanker though.

I discounted Miranda for this very reason - if a name is so associated with a literary character then you need to be damned sure that you like her.

In terms of Shakespearian characters, that leaves you with, errr...Rosalind?
