Would these initials bother you?

DS2 is due any day and we can't agree on a name. Both keen on Leo Alexander but that would give the wee man the initials 'LAP', which DH thinks will result in teasing. DS1 is Oscar, initials OSP. Can't have any MNs that end in 'Y' as our last name does, too.

Other options:
Leo Maximillion (initials LMP - makes me think of Last Menstrual Period!!)
Milo Alexander (MAP)
Leo Alastair (same problem as above!)
Leo Benjamin (DH not very keen on Benjamin)

I'm full term now so any input appreciated!

I really don't think anyone that your son grows up with would get the connection between LMP and last menstrual blood. Seriously. Would never have occurred to me.

I kind of agree re LAP. What about Milo Maxmilian together - MMP.

That would bother me, too, but then I have a tendency to over think things when it comes to names. How about 'Leo Dominic'?

Leo Alexander is lovely. I really don't think LAP are bad initials at all and not really much to tease about. And I'm a teacher who has heard and seen more teasing than most. Honestly don't think you should worry about it. MAP is more tease worthy but it's not rude or anything!!

I wouldn't worry. Leo Alexander is lovely. There won't be a problem with teasing because a) most people won't even know his middle name and b) LAP isn't a tease-worthy word anyway- it's not as if you were planning to name him Charles Richard Alexander! Grin

The only teasing that I can think of that could originate from LAP would be lap dog. But I honestly don't think children even think about middle names when they are at school and his classmates probably wouldn't put the connection together.

I should have added that another option is Leo Raphael, initials LRP... DH hasn't vetoed but thinks Raphael is on the 'poncey' side [hconfused]

My mum has the initials LMP and I had never considered it as an abbreviation for anything else before.

Agree with your DH that Rapheal is overly pretentious which is presumably what he meant by pouncey Grin

Why are you thinking that LAP (well LAPY) is an issue? I can't see anything tease worthy in that. Why is your DH so concerned, what implications does he think those letters have? LMP might become 'limp' I suppose, but really unless your initially are something like BJ I don't think that in general people really notice them very much.

I love Milo Alexander.
I think you're over analysing the initials. If they spelt something rude then fair enough, but LAP or MAP? Don't worry!

I guess nobody sees lap dancer in there then! Seriously though, it's really a trivial issue at the end of the day and I doubt your child will suffer at the hands of bullies coz his initials are LAP. They're more likely to pick on poor Atticus.

Aw lovely names but that's some serious overthinkage!!!

Do children really tease about initials?

Report
PickledFanjoCat · 28/10/2012 19:31

Yes, my cousin got teased over RAT.

But LMP? Er, unlikely!

Really? I had a boyfriend whose initials were JAB, that seems similar to LAP to me. I don't think anyone ever commented on it.

DP's initials are THC, nobody ever comments on that either.

You're over thinking it. Leo Alexander is lovely.

my dh's initials are PMT. Even has a private numberplate that is proudly displayed on his car!

Its not the inititals that are the problem its the way the person owning them reacts to them

Don't think it matters. My initials spell an inoffensive word too and no-one ever mentioned it.

They are all fine, although I agree that Raphael is poncey.

If you are really worried he could always be Alexander Leo - then he would ALP, which is kinda cool IMO.

My DD is RDCK, which I've never written down until just now. She's RK to everyone. Would anyone really know what the full initials are?

I love the name Leo Alexander, but if the initials bother you, could you add in a second middle name too?

Report
Alisvolatpropiis · 28/10/2012 22:55

No problem with it I can see. Initials that spell ass are the ones that prove problematic.

The name you've got in mind is so handsome!

I wouldn't worry. But if you are what about Leo Xander? Then it's lxp
