How many Gabriels?

In a rather unimaginatively titled follow-up to my "how many Henrys" thread, I was hoping you could help me out with Gabriel.

How many Gabriels do you know please and what are their ages roughly?

Also, do you like the name?

2 both aged 9-10

one, 4. love Gabriel but hate Gabe, we rejected it for this reason since I don't think you could stop the shortening easily

AlwaysHoldingOnToStarbug Wed 24-Oct-12 09:46:59

3, age 5, 6 and 8.

Although its not a name I'd choose I do like it.

I don't know any. I have never ever met a single Gabriel in my entire life. I don't even know of any distant Gabriels, if that makes sense, no friends of friends etc.

A shame because I think it's a nice name! smile

only one, he's 34 and fit as you like.

Bagofspiders Wed 24-Oct-12 09:55:07

Love it (DS's name!). He's 1. I've heard of a few others of varying ages, from newborn throwing to 14. I think it's still a relatively uncommon name though although quite popular in America and Ireland I'm told.

The only thing is you have to be prepared to constantly correct people when they call him Gabrielle!

Gabriel is THE BEST BOYS NAME! We don't have any sons, but if we ever have another child and it's a boy, he will be Gabriel :-) I've absolutely loved the name since I was 5 years old (I'm just shy of 30 now).

Anyway, there is a Gabriel in my DD1s class. He is 4yo. I know of a few Gabriels back home in Ireland who are 60+ now.

Thanks for all the replies so far! I would prefer people use the full Gabriel but don't mind the nn Gabe so won't be upset if it does get shortened.

I have always loved the name Gabriel, as does DH but he isn't convinced it goes as well with Agatha (our DD's name) as well as Henry which is our other front runner.

None in ordinary life, I know 2 who live in another country, age 4 & almost 12.

I know 3- a baby, a toddler and a teenager. I'd say it's popular-ish. I think it's a really lovely name and would've used it but already one in the family.

Bagofspiders Wed 24-Oct-12 19:25:57

I think Agatha and Gabriel works. smile

Gugglebum Wed 24-Oct-12 20:53:38

I know two, my own, who is 11, and one of my best friend's sons, who is 6 and named after mine. smile We have an unusual one syllable last name, so we don't let anyone shorten it to Gabe because it sounds odd together. My son prefers his full name anyway and gently corrects people all the time. Eleven years in, I have not fallen out of love with his name!

Just my own 8 yr old. Loved it when my 14 yr old dd was born and still loved it when we finally had a boy 6 yrs later. Still completely bonkers about it grin

Thanks everyone for such positive feedback!

Thanks bagofspiders, I think it works with Agatha too. smile

smoothieooo Thu 25-Oct-12 14:27:54

Gabriel is the best name! DS1's name dontcha know. He's the only one I know, other than a boy at his primary school who was 4 years younger.

smoothieooo Thu 25-Oct-12 14:28:16

Sorry - forgot to say that DS1 is just 14

echidnakid Thu 25-Oct-12 23:29:29

Thanks! It seems fair to say Gabriel errs on the side of familiar but not common, amongst MNers at least. That bodes well!

MorallyBankrupt Fri 26-Oct-12 12:48:25

None. But I think it's a stunning name.

CPtart Fri 26-Oct-12 13:37:28

I know one of 14, but he gets Gabe all the time!

willyoulistentome Fri 26-Oct-12 13:40:07

1 - aged 9 - He's Polish. His parents call him Gabi - pronounced Gabby. They pronounce Gabriel like Gab- riel rather than Gabe - riel.

Clary Fri 26-Oct-12 17:22:06

I know one and one only, he is 1. I should add that I know a lot of kids as I have 3 and I am a teacher.

don't know that many under 5s tho so it may be up and coming!

Should tell you that DS2 was the Angel Gabriel in a school play in reception and a lot of people seemed to thin kit was a girl's name. But that's just their ignorance smile

HolyAutumnGoldBatman Fri 26-Oct-12 17:40:27

I don't know any, it's nice.

serin Fri 26-Oct-12 17:42:13

I know a 10yr old and he is the best boy in the world wink
