I love the name Brendan
ExP loves the name Padhraig

Which do you prefer?

scarlettsmummy2 Wed 10-Oct-12 22:08:39

Not Brendan.

SilkieChicken Wed 10-Oct-12 17:34:41

DBIL is Padraig (par-dric here too)

DinosaursOnASpaceship Wed 10-Oct-12 17:14:44

Seems pretty split leaning towards Padraig! Which ex pronounces par-dric.

Made me laugh with the Trevor and Howard comment!

I like Brendan and I have no idea why (not seen the bake off programme)

Padhraig also has a million pronunciations so that would be tiresome.

Paw . . . . .

squoosh Wed 10-Oct-12 15:29:13

Eeek, it's like a toss up between Trevor and Howard.

There are much nicer Irish names.

Brendan if I absolutely had to.

amck5700 Wed 10-Oct-12 14:46:05

Padhraig - brendan just brings to mind the guy from the Great British Bake Off and he is a bit of an knob smile

willyoulistentome Wed 10-Oct-12 13:55:45

They both sound a bit old mannish to me. But if I had to choose one it would be Brendan.

bigbluebump Wed 10-Oct-12 13:54:10

Neither would be my choice, but I'd have to choose Brendan beacause I know how to pronounce/spell it. No idea how to pronounce Padhraig confused.

MoonHare Wed 10-Oct-12 13:36:02

I always thought Padhraig was pn Porrick but the golfer doesn't seem to pn it that way.

Prefer Padhriag to Brendan anyway.

MaBaya Wed 10-Oct-12 13:35:48

Neither are my fave Irish names but I prefer Padraig

Gwennan Wed 10-Oct-12 12:33:56

I find Padhraig a bit of a minefield, pronunciation-wise.

CheerfulYank Tue 09-Oct-12 22:46:53

I like Padraig best, but Brendan is nice too IMO.

Ham69 Tue 09-Oct-12 22:45:54

I don't mind Padhraig, actually. In fact I think I quite like it. I presume it's pronounced like Patrick but with an Irish accent?!

Not at all keen on Brendan.

picnicbasketcase Tue 09-Oct-12 22:44:47

I'm not entirely sure how you pronounce Padhraig, is it like Patrick or Pawrig or something else? Not keen on either tbh. Plenty of other much nicer Irish (I assume) names.

clam Tue 09-Oct-12 22:41:20

Brendan????? shock Please no!

HolyAutumnGoldBatman Tue 09-Oct-12 22:39:47

I really don't like either of them.

If you're in England I'd go with Brendan because it's easier for people to say and spell.

EverybodysSpookyEyed Tue 09-Oct-12 22:36:23

If I really had only those two to choose from

Viviennemary Tue 09-Oct-12 22:32:49

I'm not overkeen on either but prefer Brendan. I wouldn't have a clue how to pronounce Padhraig.

YankeeAlphaBooingUniform Tue 09-Oct-12 22:29:04

Popumpkin Tue 09-Oct-12 22:27:07

Neither. Sorry.

AndWhenYouGetThere Tue 09-Oct-12 22:17:51

(no idea how to pronounce Padraig - he'd probably get "Patrig?" or an approximation of it.)

AThingInYourLife Tue 09-Oct-12 22:13:25

I like Brendan and Pádraig (what's with the h?)

MrsRhettButler Tue 09-Oct-12 22:13:16

Brendan. How is Padhraig pronounced?
