Is Sebastian too predictable with my other boys' names?

About a year ago I was obsessed with having a Sebastian - DH hated it, would never consider it.

Now that a third boy is actually growing inside me and I cast it off the list long ago because of DH's aversion. Then last night he picked up a baby name book for the first time and came across Sebastian and said "Well that's not too bad, add it to the list." You could have knocked me down with a feather!

So now it's a possibility I find myself worrying about it extreme popularity and - to be honest - predictability with my other boys' names - Felix and Theodore.

My other choice is Christopher as it's my dad's name, but he would only be called Kit, never ever Chris or Christopher.

So do you agree with my concerns? Is Sebastian yawn-worthy or fabulous? Is Kit better?

I love Sebastian.

I know 2 who are friends with each other - one gets called Seb, the other Bas.

They need a 3rd, so we could call him Ian grin

I just can't help thinking of Sebastian in Little Britain, with Anthony Head.

Also, to answer your actual question.... I think it sounds lovely with your other 2 DS names.

Sebastian is a lovely name, it was vetoed by DP for ds1 but for some reason, like your DP, was okayed for ds2. I have a Rowan (4) and a Sebastian (3) and always get positive comments. Sebastian is more popular now than it was 3 yrs ago but that doesn't bother me, my Sebastian is still the only one I know.

I really don't like Sebastian or kit, sorry. I've never liked Sebastian and kit sounds a little bit girly to me

My imaginary, future ds will be Arlo which I think fits quite nicely with my imaginary dd Thea with Theodore and felix

What about...

TheWave Tue 09-Oct-12 14:03:24

I think Sebastian goes better.

prefer christopher kit. i really hate the name Sebastian. it's so 'i wanna be posh like'. yikes. and bash? omg. wanktastical.

I have a Benedict, and I wanted DS2 to be Sebastian, but this was vetoed on the grounds that Benedict and Sebastian sounded like they ran an antiques shop in Brighton. Wish I'd stuck to my guns! I love Kit too but have a brother with this name. And Felix and Theodore are gorgeous.

That's fine, we adore cats! smile

Ephiny - of course he could make his own decision when old enough but I'm saying if in infancy or toddlerhood anyone called him Chris, they would be corrected. As a parent I'm allowed to choose his nickname smile

My Theodore is never called Teddy, nor does anyone call him Ted. Anyone who has tried is politely corrected. Simple. I am a Suzanne - just try to call me Sue - won't happen. I don't subscribe to the belief that people will call someone what they will and no-one has any control over it. If he's Kit, he's Kit, unless he decides different later on smile

Avalicious1980 Mon 08-Oct-12 21:20:06

Felix and Kit makes me think of cats.

3boysgirlontheway Mon 08-Oct-12 17:27:13

Felix, Theodore and Saul. Job done!!

Ephiny Mon 08-Oct-12 14:30:01

I think both are fine.

When you say he would never ever be known as Chris(topher)...why not? What if he wants to be? What's the point of giving a name no one is allowed to use?

LOVE Kit. Not very used either. In fact, never met a child called it and I am a teacher. Not keen on Sebastian- reminds me of bastard.

ivykaty44 Mon 08-Oct-12 14:24:31

I am really not keen on Kit

I like seb

Sebastian was on my short-list too, but I didn't like Seb or Baz and people will shorten it, so ... we went for Christopher. He's known as Christo, which really suits him.

ATailOfTwoKitties Mon 08-Oct-12 14:20:40

Your other two have nice meanings to the names, so how about
Benedict (blessing)
David (beloved)
Dominic (lord)
Matthew, Jonathan (same meaning as Theodore)

PickledFanjoCat Mon 08-Oct-12 14:19:24

Well I am going to be unhelpful and like them both.

Kit is very nice. It has a small edge for me. Seb/Sebbie is nice too. Not a fan of Basty.

I love Sebastian! And he will love the story of how his name went in and out of fashion round at your house. Go with it - how could such a great name be yawn worthy? Don't forget, the internet can make anything seem yawn worthy ;-)

jaffacakehips Mon 08-Oct-12 12:59:07

Nothing taking your fancy Persephone

Okay...what about:
Felix, Theodore and Hugo or Hugh
Felix, Theodore and Barnaby
Felix, Theodore and Alec
Felix, Theodore and Xavier
Felix, Theodore and Guy
Felix, Theodore and Gabriel
Felix, Theodore and Rafe
Felix, Theodore and Louis
Felix, Theodore and Otto
Felix, Theodore and Lysander
Felix, Theodore and Reuben

Anyone else?

LuellaLovesLavender Sun 07-Oct-12 13:04:02

I like Sebastian but love Kit and I think it would be much more interesting whereas Sebastian is a bit yawn worthy!

SirBoobAlot Sun 07-Oct-12 11:48:50

I like Sebastian. Much prefer it to Kit.

Treaclesmart Sun 07-Oct-12 11:44:36

Not a Sebastian fan but it does go with your other names. I prefer Christopher, and Kit sounds cute with Felix and Theo. Wondered if Isaac (Ike) would be nice too.

YouMayLogOut Sun 07-Oct-12 10:37:39

Sebastian and Christopher are both great classic names.

Sorry but I really dislike Kit, it's faddy and twee IMHO. Kitten, Kit Kat, P.E. kit, first aid kit. Chris is much nicer and more substantial.

Felix, Theodore and...
