Any thoughts? I hear it's quite popular but don't know any myself. I think it's rather pretty but not overused which is what we're after.

Sorry I really dislike it. Have no idea why, just one of those name which grates me Blush

I know a few Freya's, 3 under 2yrs and 1 born last week. Seems to be quite popular but I don't think it will become the next Lily or Amelia.

Sorry I not much help! Wink

I don't like it, but it's not awful.

I know a few little Freya's, but not loads.

Thanks for your thoughts. I also quite like Ciara/Keira but have an ex called Kieran who I'm still friends with but not sure if it's a bit similar. Confused

If you're worried about popularity I know far more Ciaras than Freyas. We're in London though and there are a lot of Irish families, so maybe not representative of the UK as a whole.

There are also a lot of Kieran, Kiran, Cian and Kyra.

Lots of Freyas round here.

I love the name Freya, we were all set on Freja as a girls name, but DC1 is a boy so we have to work a little harder for names!

Love the name and don't know any Freyas

My DD is a Freya and I don't know any others in our area. Know several over t'interweb but they're all down south so suspect it may be more common in some areas than others. Know lots of Kieras!

Good strong name - plenty of interesting stories for her to read about godesses who kick arse when she's older!

I think it's a great name...but then I probably would! People always comment on it being a pretty name to me. I've always liked it having it if that's any help!

Love it! My friend's daughter is called Freya and she's gorgeous! I've also taught a couple of lovely Freyas. It is becoming quite popular.

Isn't it no.17 or something in the top 100? I know one...

Have a friend called Freya - we call her Free. Great girl, feminine and strong.

I like it.

I work in a nursery in Scotland and currently have 3 Freya's in our care.

I also know 2 Freya's outside of work.

Thank you all. I think we'll put Freya on the list and see what we think after her quick, painfree birth (positive thinking!). Smile

I really dislike this name. Perhaps irrationally. To me it manages to sound both chavvy and posh at the same time. It's also the name of a brand of underwear. Ugh. Sorry!

Report
PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 30/09/2012 16:59

It's very very popular here

It's also the name of a brand of underwear. Ugh. Sorry!

And the name of a godess, Freja was a godess before it was an underwear range.

LOVE Freya/Freja. It was on the shortlist for both of our DDs, but because it sounds like a slang word for shagging where they were both born I never got to use it Sad.

Actually we live somewhere else now so it wouldn't have even been an issue but still...

My Freya is 12 now. It wasn't so popular then. There are currently 2 Freya's in Yr 1 at our primary and one at gym so a bit more popular now. Still love it though :)

I love Freya, thinking about it as a name for dc2, but I'm put off by how common it is now.
