Which is nicer? Of, if you don't like them, why?

TBH I'd prefer Helen or or Louise. If you're set on the a, then Louisa. I find Helena hard to say for some reason.
Also she'll be for ever saying "it's Helena, not Eleanor".

Louisa is beautiful. Smile

Both are lovely. I always think girl's names ending with an 'a' are prettier and also more sophisticated when grown up.

I really like both of them, I find it hard to chose a favourite between the two. To me Louise and Helen are both dull.

Helena
Louisa is a bit dull, not as dull as Louise, but still dull.

How are you thinking of prounouncing Helena?

If Helen-a, I like that best.

If Hel-ee-na or Hel-aye-na, then I prefer Louisa.

Helena for me

Helena - lovely. Louisa is quite nice though, but I prefer Louise.

Definitely Louisa, (which is much better than Louise). It's not commonly used and very classy.

I love Helena pronouced either as Heleena or Helaina. Otherwise, Louisa.

Opposite to TheSurgeonsMate, in fact!

leddeeburdee · 28/09/2012 16:48

Louisa for me. Great name.

Report
MoonHare · 28/09/2012 17:25

I like Helena best, pn Hel-ay-na.

Good luck.

Both beautiful, classic, timeless names. DD has one of them and the other would be top of the list for any unlikely future DD.

Helena for sure. Not keen on Louisa at all.

ProudNeathGirl, I have known two Helenas and two Eleanors, neither have had trouble with being called the other. OP, please don't worry about this point, it really won't present you with an issue.

Helen-a is a nicer pronounciation than the others. :)

SomersetONeil · 28/09/2012 21:47

No, we've never had any Eleanor-related confusion, either.

Both lovely, but Helena just has the edge for me.

Report
metronome · 29/09/2012 23:11

I am Hel-ee-na Smile However the vast majority of people call me Helen-a at first. If you are in England then Helen-a seems to be the most widespread pronounciation
