Which is nicer? Of, if you don't like them, why?

ProudNeathGirl Fri 28-Sep-12 12:22:16

TBH I'd prefer Helen or or Louise. If you're set on the a, then Louisa. I find Helena hard to say for some reason.
Also she'll be for ever saying "it's Helena, not Eleanor".

ALittleBitOfMagic Fri 28-Sep-12 12:23:54

Louisa is beautiful. smile

LittleAbruzzenBear Fri 28-Sep-12 12:26:02

Both are lovely. I always think girl's names ending with an 'a' are prettier and also more sophisticated when grown up.

Narked Fri 28-Sep-12 12:48:20

Helena.

ashleyscott Fri 28-Sep-12 13:26:22

I Love Louisa, very classy! And Loui is just adorable.

RosehipJam Fri 28-Sep-12 14:52:40

Helena.

I really like both of them, I find it hard to chose a favourite between the two. To me Louise and Helen are both dull.

Startailoforangeandgold Fri 28-Sep-12 15:51:40

Helena
Louisa is a bit dull, not as dull as Louise, but still dull.

TheSurgeonsMate Fri 28-Sep-12 16:05:26

How are you thinking of prounouncing Helena?

If Helen-a, I like that best.

If Hel-ee-na or Hel-aye-na, then I prefer Louisa.

Finbert Fri 28-Sep-12 16:08:06

Helena for me

NadiaWadia Fri 28-Sep-12 16:38:23

Helena - lovely. Louisa is quite nice though, but I prefer Louise.

IWantToBeAWomble Fri 28-Sep-12 16:41:34

Definitely Louisa, (which is much better than Louise). It's not commonly used and very classy.

CremeEggThief Fri 28-Sep-12 16:47:17

I love Helena pronouced either as Heleena or Helaina. Otherwise, Louisa.

Opposite to TheSurgeonsMate, in fact!

leddeeburdee Fri 28-Sep-12 16:48:01

Louisa for me. Great name.

MoonHare Fri 28-Sep-12 17:25:07

I like Helena best, pn Hel-ay-na.

Good luck.

TheSurgeonsMate Fri 28-Sep-12 17:28:18

What a lovely example of just how useful these threads tend to be CremeEggThief!

Both beautiful, classic, timeless names. DD has one of them and the other would be top of the list for any unlikely future DD.

TidyGOLDDancer Fri 28-Sep-12 21:38:28

Helena for sure. Not keen on Louisa at all.

ProudNeathGirl, I have known two Helenas and two Eleanors, neither have had trouble with being called the other. OP, please don't worry about this point, it really won't present you with an issue.

Helen-a is a nicer pronounciation than the others. smile

SomersetONeil Fri 28-Sep-12 21:47:37

No, we've never had any Eleanor-related confusion, either.

Waswondering Fri 28-Sep-12 21:49:12

Love both! I know a Helena who is very lovely smile

delilah88 Sat 29-Sep-12 22:47:44

How do the Helenas you know pronounce their names?

scootle Sat 29-Sep-12 23:01:59

Love them both - two of my favourite names. <helpful>

delilah88 Sat 29-Sep-12 23:03:37

How would you pronounce Helena?

fishcalledwonder Sat 29-Sep-12 23:11:13

Both lovely, but Helena just has the edge for me.
